April is pleasant with the first blooms of spring, July is energizing with it’s blazing sun, December is joyful with holiday spirit, but there is no month quite like September to reawaken our senses and inspire us to make the most out of our days. Dwayne Bergmann and team spent much of the summer indoors, like most Floridians, beating the heat or avoiding the rain. But in September, when the humidity lifts across the country, we once again take to the great outdoors to enjoy the new season. In most parts of the country, this month symbolizes that sweet spot when you can walk outside without a jacket while enjoying a refreshing breeze. Just a few short weeks until the chill starts creeping in, ushering us to cozy up indoors. Dwayne shares some ways to make the most out of the ideal days ahead.
Get Out While You Can
Whether it’s hosting one last beach gathering of the season or building your dinner menu around summer vegetables that are soon to disappear from the farm stands, embrace September as a time to enjoy the best of both worlds. The magical light at sunset and the stillness in the air combine to create an ethereal moment ripe for the enjoying. Fondly known as “Indian Summer”, the time of year when summer blends seamlessly into fall is brimming with sensorial experiences. Dwayne Bergmann takes full advantage by enjoying his morning tea on the veranda and an evening cocktail at a waterfront restaurant. Both hours are blessed with temperatures that call for a light jacket or draped sweater, which for Dwayne is the chicest way to complete a look.
Enjoy Your Home This Season
Since we may not be ready to fully re-immerse ourselves in public spaces, September is the perfect time to transition your own home to greet the incoming season. Consider all of the senses in your approach; light warm scented candles throughout the home, swap linens from cooling textures to midweight fabrics, enjoy the views and heavenly temperatures from your outdoor spaces, and play music that fits your mood and the moment. Get your little ones involved with fall themed craft projects like painted gourds or simulate the changing leaves with tissue paper decoupage. Another fun activity for all ages is baking, which is one of Dwayne’s favorite go-to’s for weeknight family time. Nothing says autumn quite like the smell of baked goods in the air! On the menu this month: his signature chocolate bourbon pecan pie with cinnamon coconut milk ice cream. yum!
Think Outside the Box
We’re all creatures of habit and comfort which means sometimes we’re guilty of defaulting to our usual routines. Shake it up while the weather still permits by moving some of your daily rituals and activities outdoors! Dwayne firmly believes food tastes better outdoors, so why not enjoy your weeknight meals outside? Get your steps in and your heartrate up with a sunrise or sunset walk, or move your virtual workout class to the backyard for the whole family to enjoy together. Your thoughtfully designed indoor reading nook will still be there come November so why not get lost in the pages of your favorite book en plein air? If like Dwayne, you’ve introduced meditation into your wellness practice, indulge your soul in the freshness of September air filling your lungs.
Whatever you do outside this month, remember to stop and take a moment to enjoy the freshness of the new season and all that it represents. Greet September with a new attitude, game plan, and wardrobe for a fabulous start to fall!
