With cheer in the air, Dwayne Bergmann is determined to make your spirits even brighter during this unprecedented holiday season. While gathering with loved ones for gift exchanges and decadent dinners will be virtual this year, you can still bring the happiness of the holidays to your home. From his signature holiday recipes to festive decorating tips and crafts for the little ones, he’s sharing his time-honored traditions and new additions for celebrating the season.
Nothing warms the heart like classic Christmas cookies and a glass of your favorite holiday cocktail. This year, Dwayne is whipping up a selection of old and new favorites. His mother’s butterscotch oatmeal “scotchies” were always on the table (Dwayne’s secret, double the butterscotch chips and a few bits of toffee). This year he is turning his family-favorite chocolate bourbon pecan pie into mini tartlets for a bite-sized treat. Not only are they adorable, but they also help with portion control! Cheers to the many blessings brough to light throughout the year and the new year ahead with a sweet and savory Cranberry Gin Fizz. Mix gin, cranberry juice and a splash of champagne, pour over ice and serve with a few whole cranberries and a spring of fresh rosemary. It’s like Christmas in a glass!
Decorating for the holidays can often feel daunting. The tree, the lights, the garland… oh my! Dwayne suggests keeping it simple and natural for a chic yet merry look. Select a color scheme, whether its rainbow, all white, mixed metals, or classic red and green, let it guide your decorating decisions. From ornaments and lights to centerpieces and floral arrangements, a cohesive color story is always elegant. Last year Dwayne did an all white Christmas, but this year it’s rustic and vintage with vine wreaths, wooden reindeer, vintage Santa Clause toys, and crocheted stockings on the tree. The artfully placed magnolia garland adds a festive flair and the joyful scent envelopes the home with the season’s warmth and wonder.
Get the little ones involved in making their own holiday memories to cherish for years to come. Pick up plain ornaments and set up a DIY Ornament bar complete with glitter, ribbon, stickers, paint, markers, the works! Have each kiddo design their own ball of holiday magic to adorn your holiday tree year after year. For another family-friendly activity, bake up a batch of sugar cookies in fun shapes like stars, trees, Santa hats and presents for them to decorate with colorful icing and sprinkles.
