As part of Dwayne Bergmann’s WINK TV segment, “High Class, Low Cost” he’s been tapped to share some tips for viewers to enhance their homes, room by room. As a sneak preview for what’s to come, we’re sharing some of Dwayne’s designer-approved best practices with you! The magic Dwayne and his team are able to bring to each space is always a combination of these tried-and-true practices, imagination, and daring to think outside the box.
Set the tone for the rest of your space with a first impression that reflects you. Aside from curb appeal, your entry is the first thing visitors see when they arrive at your home. Crossing the threshold into your world should be a highly personal, welcoming, and satisfying moment for guests and inhabitants alike. Depending on your layout, it may very well be a window into the rest of your space, with sight lines to other rooms. Taking into consideration its highly visible, and highly trafficked position, function and flow are essential. The design should blend seamlessly with the rest of the rooms visible from this vantage point, while also standing on its own as a purposefully designed space. If your entry serves as the drop zone for family member’s coats, shoes, etc, implementing (and encouraging) use of storage solutions will make the space livable, yet luxurious. Dwayne’s go-to entry-enhancing element is a stunning floral arrangement, whether real or faux, flowers or plants, it brings energy, color, and texture to the space with a warm, homey touch.
Often the smallest spaces in our homes, powder rooms are also one of the most visited by our house guests. This makes them the perfect opportunity to create a “wow” moment and express ourselves through design. Dwayne loves to introduce playful patterns, bold colors, and statement-making accents to really show off his client’s personality. Because the space is situated behind closed doors, it’s also an area to have some fun with! What might be too overwhelming or loud for a more public space could be perfectly at home in your jewel box of a powder room. Now is the perfect time for a powder room renovation, including smart solutions for staying clean and organized, as we’re getting closer by the day to welcoming guest back into our homes.
At this point we all recognize how important escapes can be for our mental health. After a full year of no boundaries between work life and home life, no vacations to look forward to and seemingly no “off button” to our fast-paced world, the at-home retreat has become a necessity rather than a luxury. Dwayne has always believed that bedrooms should serve as personal respites that reflect the individual, but now more than ever it’s important to consider how we want to feel in our spaces. Color, lighting, flow, and texture are all contributing factors when designing a sanctuary. That said, you don’t have to live in a yoga studio to feel relaxed at home. Dwayne has discovered the sweet spot between modern oasis and luxury living, where the finest finishes bring joy, textures create a sensory experience, and all of the elements work together to create a mood that both elevates and relaxes.

For en suite bathrooms and closets, there’s an opportunity to create an extension of the bedroom space while giving it a unique personality of its own. Dramatic lighting, reflective surfaces, organic elements, and dreamy scents help to set the tone in a master bath. One of the most underrated stress relievers is organization! The master closet is the perfect opportunity to take control of the chaos with thoughtfully designed solutions for a space you’ll never want to leave.
Our kitchens are by far the most loved and most used spaces in our home and therefore must be built to accommodate the wear and tear. But that doesn’t mean sacrificing style! In fact, Dwayne’s line of custom cabinetry is built to meet this exact design need. Artfully crafted and beautifully designed, kitchen cabinetry must also be functional and adaptable to how you live in your home. Because decorative elements are at a minimum – with the exception of counter stools, serveware, or countertop accessories – the architectural elements and enhancements become opportunities to express yourself. From cabinet pulls to faucets and fixtures, and countertops to flooring, every aspect of your kitchen should compliment the other to create a cohesive, high functioning space. Lighting is the ultimate accessory to any kitchen, Dwayne’s secret for kitchen command centers that command attention.
