As previously reported, a recent settlement between the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will result in two major changes to the way that USCIS treats L-2, H-4, and E Dependent Spouse work authorization: L-2 and E Dependent Spouse holders will be granted automatic employment authorization incident to their status. H-4 holders will be granted automatic renewals of employment authorization for applicants that already have valid H-4 status (but an expired EAD card).

Green and Spiegel has received confirmation that CBP Ports of Entry have already implemented the policy for L dependent spouses and E dependent spouses (including E-1, E-2, and E-3) as of Monday, January 31, 2022.

Under the new policy, spouses of E and L visa holders would receive an annotated I-94, clarifying that they are the spouse of a nonimmigrant visa holder. For example, the spouse of an E-3 visa holder would receive an I-94 that indicates E-3DS, and the spouse of an L-1 visa holder would receive an I-94 that indicates L-2S.

These new annotations will be considered acceptable proof of employment authorization for I-9 purposes.

Green and Spiegel will provide further updates related to how to complete Form I-9 with this new designation as this advancement continues to develop.

Rodin and American Collectors: A Love Story

01/28/2022 Via Freeman's Auction

From Paris to Philadelphia, the enduring influence of master sculptor Auguste Rodin is evident in public and private collections across the world. The artist’s best-known sculptural works have experienced such thorough cultural permeation that it’s not difficult to understand why he’s been deemed the father of modern sculpture. For the full picture of Rodin’s ascent to power in the late 19th century, it’s instructive to take a transatlantic leap from the artist’s native Paris to Gilded Age America.

Though Rodin—who spent most of his life in Paris—never traveled to the United States, he nonetheless enjoyed an enthusiastic following and robust patronage from Americans during his lifetime and beyond. The artist’s big break into the American market arrived at the opening of the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, where three of his sculptures were displayed; it was a window into both the massive success and controversy to come in Rodin’s career, as the naturalism and nudity of his sculptural subjects caused the works to be cordoned off into a separate, private viewing space.

France limits visitors in effort to save loved beach in
Calanques near Marseille

01/31/2021 Via France 24

French authorities said Monday they would begin testing limited daily permits to visit one of the most pristine coves near the Mediterranean city of Marseille, where summer crowds have sharply increased erosion risks.

The high cliffs and sapphire-blue waters at the Sugiton pebble beach are a main tourist draw for the Calanques National Park, not least because other areas of the forest reserve are often closed because of fire risks.

About 1,500 people converge at the site each day in the high season, a major environmental strain for an escape just a few minutes' outside France's second-largest city.

In recent years people have increasingly trampled down the slope to the beach instead of taking the path intended to limit damage to vegetation.

Who is hosting the 2024 Olympic Games?
Paris and its landmarks are ready to take center stage.

02/01/2022 Via USA Today by Evan Hilbert

The 2024 Olympics in Paris will feature an opening ceremony on the Seine River and beach volleyball under the shadow of the Eiffel Tower.

Paris 2024 will also feature skateboarding at the Place de la Concorde, equestrian at the Château de Versailles, and surfing in the French territory of Tahiti, which is approximately 9,000 miles from the city's center.

Still, Paris 2024 organizers plan on most events to be held within 10 miles of Olympic Village, with the exception of soccer, which will be played throughout the country. France, having served as host country for the 2019 World Cup, already has the infrastructure in place for a nationwide soccer event.
