The Investor Alliance for Human Rights and NEI Investments are hosting an webinar in support of B.C. Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
Join us for a discussion on a global precedent regarding the legislative implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).
British Columbia’s new Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act seeks to align all of the Canadian province’s laws, including those affecting forestry and oil and gas extraction, with UNDRIP.
This is a highly significant development in global efforts to implement UNDRIP. The Act provides Indigenous Peoples, businesses and local governments with tools to build a robust and sustainable economy that respects the fundamental rights of Indigenous Peoples. However, its success depends on public support for this agenda from both investors and companies.
The webinar will detail what the legislation entails for business, its national and global significance, and what investors can do to ensure its success.
We have the pleasure of having with us:
- Merle Alexander, one of B.C.’s most respected indigenous lawyers and a co-drafter of the new legislation will share what the Act does and does not mean for business and investment.
- Joan Carling, award-winning indigenous rights activist and environmental defender from the Philippines will outline the importance of the legislation from a global perspective.
