Welcome to the Streatham & Marlborough Sweep (SMS), a regular update of club news.

Survey results

Between March and April, we invited members of all sections to take part in a survey designed by the ECB. Thank you to the 48 members who responded. Firstly, it’s great to see that the majority ranked the club as “good” or “very good” but there’s always room for improvement.

We’ve had some time to analyse the findings and have narrowed the focus to five key areas. Two of these, changing facilities and subscriptions, will be greatly assisted by the new pavilion whilst outdoor nets are a known issue and funding is being sought. Two further areas require a working group to discuss how best to integrate sections and how to improve men’s training. If anyone is interested in being part of these groups, please contact any member of the Executive Committee.

A summary of the survey results can be accessed here.

Home Teams Win Thrillers!

The men’s 1s and 3s won games which came down to the wire at Dulwich Common with both sides cheering each other on with a healthy crowd as they secured victory. The 1s, defending a paltry 146, reduced Addiscombe to 60-6 before a fifty run partnership swing the game back into the away sides favour. Ben Grindell and Tim Stuckey came back superbly to take the remaining four wickets with the latter bowling their no. 11 with just six runs to spare. Top effort from the bowlers.
The 3’s took wickets at regular intervals to reduce Beddington to 126-9 but the last wicket put on 49 to take the score to 175ao. With many of the top order failing to push on from starts, Satish Parthasarathy stood firm and, with Connor Rogers, eeked SMCC closer. With 6 to get, Connor stepped out of his crease and confidently whips through mid-wicket. “SHOT!” rang around the ground. Two punched through covers and the game was ours with an over to spare. Great stuff!

Late Drinks Outside at the Club

Just a reminder that we are in a residential area and need to keep our neighbours sweet to avoid any issues with the new pavilion plans. As such, we will be closing the garden area by 10.30pm and would appreciate if you could assist with making your way inside and closing the external doors by this time.
