Second Annual Pet Walk & Vendor Show
The early morning dew glimmered on the grass at the Monessen City Park Walking Track as it slowly transformed into an exciting place for humans and pets alike. The journey began at registration and progressed along the path to a plethora of tables which abounded with raffle baskets, MVP T-shirts, air brush photo chance, Pet Supplies Plus with give away items and so much more.

Next, were the rescues. Furkid Rescue, Pet Search, Husky Paws Rescue Inc., No Paws Left Behind, Southwest PA Pugs with Special Needs and Chaos's Lunatic Duck Rescue, all offering information on how to adopt a well deserving pet. The ducks were a hit as they were pulled through the crowd in their wagon!

The vendors were numerous with their interesting items on display to purchase. A few returning favorites, such as, the Joseph's Nursery fall photo shoot and the Smooch your Pooch booth. Music was in the air all day as presented by DJ Hammitup along with announcements given by Patty Alcorn. If you were hungry, Boso's Lawn Care, Tom's Diner on Wheels, and Bull River Taco provided food, topped off with The Ice Cream Kids.

Near the Pet Arena, the cool zone was a refreshing opportunity for your furry friends to have a drink in the ice and water pools. Several dogs took advantage of the zone and completely relaxed within the pool! A memorial walk was preformed by many participants honoring their pets who crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. It was very moving as you watched pets and owners walk silently around the trail remembering their loved ones.

The action in the Pet Arena this year was the Bark in the Park Costume Contest. Many thanks go out to all those who participated including our judges (Ed and Mackenzie), Matt Shorraw for announcing, Roxane who took the pictures, and Linda and Jim who collected information. Thanks to Pets Supplies Plus and Mary Earl for donating the prizes. Here are the winners:

KING & QUEEN OF BARK IN THE PARK
Soon after the contest ended, Father Mike from the Epiphany of our Lord Church, offered a blessing of the animals. As the event drew to a close, the winners for the air brush photo, 50-50, and the basket raffles were announced. As always, it takes many people to make this walk a success. Thanks to all the volunteers, members, vendors, food trucks and mostly to Randy Marino for making MVP's vision come to fruition.
Fido Bags
Pictured above are two members of the Monessen Fire Departments representing both the Downtown and Hilltop Stations. They were presented the Fido Bag donated by the Mon Valley Paws organization to assist in the survival of our beloved pets from smoke inhalation. Each year a half million pets are affected by fires. More than 40,000 family pets die from smoke inhalation alone. Once fire departments receive the Fido Bag and become trained, they feel confident they have the tools to perform the best chance for survival in given emergencies. The kit contains an 02 reusable mask to fit the muzzle of a small to large breed dog. It can also be used on cats. We are proud to be able to contribute to the safety of our community pets.
