National Nurses Week 2022

As part of Nurses Week, commemorated May 6-12, we honor those dedicated and compassionate healthcare professionals who have given so much. Together, nurses are answering the call to care. We thank them for their personal commitment and sacrifice. At Florida Atlantic University's Christine E. FAU College of Nursing Celebrates
Spring 2022 Graduates

Florida Atlantic University's Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing hosted the spring commencement on Thursday, May 5, in the Carole and Barry Kaye Performing Arts Auditorium on the Boca Raton campus. The new graduates will join more than 8,700 College of Nursing alumni who have graduated from FAU since the establishment of the first nursing degree program in 1979. The spring graduates also participated in the annual Pinning Ceremony, together with friends and families. Read More

FAU College of Nursing Faculty and Students Honored at 53rd Annual Honors Convocation

Florida Atlantic University President John Kelly and Provost Bret Danilowicz hosted the University’s 53rd annual Honors Convocation on Wednesday, April 13. The ceremony recognizes the University’s most outstanding students and faculty.

Among the honorees were: Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing Assistant Professor Dr. Tamara Love who received the Excellence and Innovation in Undergraduate Teaching award; Liam Carrasco was named a University Scholar; and Angela Siclari was named one of nine Undergraduate Researchers of the Year. Happiest of birthdays to Christine E. Lynn, the College's namesake philanthropist! Together with College of Nursing Dean Safiya George, President John Kelly, faculty, staff and students gathered on May 5 to surprise Ms. Lynn for a special birthday celebration in the College's atrium on the Boca Raton campus. 

FAU College of Nursing Advisory Board Welcomes New Member

Cheryl Wild-Norvell, chief nursing officer of Broward Health North, has joined Florida Atlantic University’s Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing's Advisory Board.

“Cheryl brings to the advisory board a wealth of knowledge and more than 30 years of experience as a health care leader,” said Safiya George, Ph.D., dean, Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing. “We welcome her contributions and expertise to support our nursing students as they prepare for careers in healthcare facilities in the state and across the country.” Read More

FAU College of Nursing Advisory Board Member Honored by AVDA

FAU Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing Advisory Board member Margaret Mary Shuff was among the honorees at the 15th Annual Heart of a Woman luncheon hosted by AVDA on April 12 at the Royal Palm Country Club for the service she provides to the community and giving voice to nonprofit organizations through the Boca Raton magazine. Shuff founded the magazine along with her husband, John. Read More

Congratulations to this year's Kay Carpenter Scholars! The annual luncheon and pinning ceremony took place on April 7. Many thanks to B.G. Carter for his continued generosity and support.
Congratulations to part-time BSN student Emma Arthur who was recently named a recipient of the Soroptimist and Haitian American Nurses Association scholarships. 
So proud of our undergraduate researchers who participated in the 12th annual OURI Undergraduate Research Symposium! This year's students were Angela Siciari, Sydney Hardison, Natalie Korpinen and Veronica Laracuente together with College faculty mentor Dr. Lenny Chiang-Hanisko.
The Sigma IOTA Xi At-Large Chapter virtually hosted their annual Research Night program on April 14 to foster research inquiry and advance nursing science with College faculty members.
Student Spotlights
In early May, FAU hosted a celebration for the spring and summer 2022 Kelly/Strul Emerging Scholars graduates. Alyssa Lowe, a spring College of Nursing graduate and Scholar, gave an impactful speech during the event. Congratulations, Alyssa, on your many accomplishments!
Tiaundra Bell, a senior in the College's working professional Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, was recently named a 2022 Boca Woods Women's Club scholarship recipient. Read More

Faculty & Staff Spotlights
Drs. Cheryl Krause-Parello and Maria Ortega were recently awarded funding from FAU's College of Social Work and Criminal Justice internal seed funding program. The new initiative was launched last fall in an effort to incentivize multidisciplinary research collaborations by offsetting initial upstart costs associated with pilot and feasibility studies.
Congratulations to faculty member Dr. Monique Prosper on receiving her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Florida on April 28!
Welcome to Trish Gennodie who recently joined the College as a front desk receptionist on the Davie campus. Trish previously worked in higher education for nine years at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York. 
Welcome to Dr. Veronica Diaz as the instructional designer for Executive and Continuing Education on the College's Davie campus. Previously, Dr. Diaz served as an adjunct professor for 16 years in FAU's College of Business Executive Education program.
Congratulations to Dr. Christine Toledo! She was selected as the College's inaugural Future of Nursing Research Scholar for her project entitled, "Mi Leche Es Suficiente: A Telenovela to Promote Breastfeeding Exclusivity Among Hispanic Women."

Desiree' T. Weems was recently appointed as the Clinical Director of the Florida Atlantic University Northwest Community Health Center A Community Health Center. She will also serve as an FAU College of Nursing adjunct professor. Read More
Dr. Maria Ortega was appointed as the Associate Dean of Clinical Practice, effective May 2. She will continue to serve in her current role as the Director of the Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center.
