Carolyn McWhirter and Dottie Cobb
It was a rainy Tuesday morning in Pontotoc. Those of us who were out and about would have preferred to be home where we could stay dry and warm.
But Carolyn McWhirter and Dottie Cobb were more than happy to be stationed at the Pontotoc County Food Pantry, ready to provide anyone in need with a box of food and a friendly smile.
These ladies are from Friendship Baptist Church in Ecru, which is one of several churches whose volunteers run the food pantry. Located in the back part of the Pontotoc Chamber of Commerce, the pantry is open every Tuesday and Thursday morning.
Carolyn McWhirter enjoys volunteering at the Pontotoc County Food Pantry. (Dottie opted out of a photo.)
Dottie and Carolyn appreciate the opportunity to serve others and are especially touched by the gratitude shown by the clients. They recalled one particular case when a woman had hit on hard times due to medical bills, causing her to need the food pantry for the first time. She didn't like being in a situation where she had to receive a hand-out, so she promised to pay it forward when she got back on her feet. And she did. She returned to the food pantry as a volunteer.
Listening to these ladies talk about their work as volunteers was uplifting and inspiring - and absolutely delightful. They epitomize an often-used quote: "Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart."
Thank you, Dottie and Carolyn, for helping make the Pontotoc Food Pantry a success!
