NONPROFIT SPOTLIGHT
Alzheimer's Association
Mississippi
The Alzheimer's Association envisions a world where Alzheimer's disease no longer exists. Its mission is three-fold:
- to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research
- to provide and enhance care and support for all affected
- to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health
In Mississippi there are 55,000 individuals with Alzheimer's and 207,000 caregivers. The Mississippi chapter of the Alzheimer's Association provides support in a number of ways: educational programs, advocacy, fundraising, support groups, and resource sharing. SOCKS AND SCIVVIES DRIVE
In Northeast Mississippi, we are fortunate that our nonprofits work together for the good of all. An upcoming project is proof of that, and your nonprofit is welcome to join in. MUTEH, Volunteer NEMS, and the Tupelo Homeless Task Force will be conducting a Socks and Scivvies drive to benefit the homeless and other disadvantaged individuals. We are asking for donations of new, still-in-the-package underwear and socks of all sizes. The majority of the recipients will be adults, but children's sizes are welcome, too.
Donations will be collected on Monday, January 18, in honor of Martin Luther King National Day of Service. The two drop-off locations will be All Saints' Episcopal Church (608 W. Jefferson) and Midtown Pointe Food Court (699 S. Gloster) in Tupelo. Drop-off times are 10:00-2:00.
If you would like to help, please let me know (rebecca@unitedwaynems.org). I will be glad to send you a flyer in .pdf form that you can use to help advertise as well as a graphic for social media. We are looking forward to a very successful drive!

If you have not submitted your Volunteer Activity Report for November yet, please do so by December 15.
These reports are vital to letting funders know that Mississippi nonprofits are utilizing volunteers to help keep costs down.
If you have already sent in your numbers, thank you!
Volunteer NEMS gets calls every day from people who want to volunteer, and of course, we direct them to the online hub. If your organization is not registered on there, how will these potential volunteers know about you? Register today - then post a volunteer opportunity or two. It's FREE
