August 2020

National Nonprofit Day is
Monday August 17.

The Wilson-Gorman Tariff Act was passed into law in August 1894 establishing the requirements for the tax-exempt status for charitable organizations. National Nonprofit Day allows us the opportunity to recognize the positive impact nonprofits make in our communities. Christy Noel, VP of Digital Services at MobileCause, gives five ways to commemorate the day.

1. Give a Shout Out to Your Cause - Spread awareness about your organization on social media using the hashtag #nationalnonprofitday. Explain why it is important to you and share the organization's mission and goals.
2. Recognize Volunteers - If you are still using volunteers, have a special treat for them in the office. If you haven't been able to use volunteer services during COVID-19, give them a call on that day or send them a card in the mail letting them know how much you appreciate them.
3. Kick-Off Fall Fundraising Early - Launch a campaign with a video on your social media platforms and website. Make sure you are set up to take donations online. Set up a text messaging service to let your donors know about the kickoff to your campaign.
4. Display a Digital Donor Wall - Create a post on social media dedicated to all of your donors, large and small. Display a digital wall of their names on your website.
5. Highlight Recipients of Your Work - Take the time to show why you do what you do! Showcase how you are improving lives and making a difference in your community.
