NONPROFIT SPOTLIGHT
        Boys and Girls Club of
    Booneville/Prentiss County

More than 30 students enrolled in the Boys and Girls Club of Booneville/Prentiss County this fall, and they have been beyond busy. Under the leadership of Angelique Jumper, the students have been expanding their educational base through a variety of activities.

The club once again hosted Astro Camp, a week-long series of events endorsed by the NASA Stennis Space Center. Students participated in a variety of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) classes. In addition, they put their knowledge to use with some hands-on projects which required them to build satellites, international space stations, and robots. In honor of the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11's moon landing, the club enjoyed a "Stomp the Rockets" demonstration.

At the 2019 Boys and Girls Clubs of Mississippi Teen Leadership Retreat in Gulfport, students from all over the state gathered for four days of leadership development activities. They wore        t-shirts featuring the award-winning design of Booneville's Cristin Penrose.

In October the Booneville group visited Tupelo for the Imagine the Possibilities career expo hosted by CREATE Foundation. The expo featured information and demonstrations in 18 career pathways. Students enjoyed the interactive displays and the one-on-one conversations with experts in the various fields, such as these employees from Caterpillar.

Clearly education is the focus of the Boys and Girls Club of Booneville/Prentiss County. Perhaps that explains why 18 students from the group made the honor roll for the first reporting period. Job well done, everyone!

You can follow all the activities of the club on their
facebook page.

            NEED VOLUNTEERS?

        MAKE YOUR NEEDS KNOWN!

November 23 is Family Volunteer Day, a global day of volunteering promoted by Points of Light. Volunteer Northeast Mississippi is proud to recognize the efforts of families who work together for the betterment of their community. To that end, we have created an entire week of volunteer opportunities, called Give a Hand During Thanksgiving Week. Several nonprofits have posted volunteer needs, but it's not too late to add yours. Contact Rebecca Nelson at 662-432-0158 or rebecca@unitedwaynems.org for more information.

If your organization has not yet joined The Alliance, please consider joining today.

The Alliance is the result of a merger between The Mississippi Center for Nonprofits and the Mississippi Assocation  of Grantmakers. The goal of The Alliance is to help solve statewide problems. They provide resources that will greatly enhance any nonprofit's abilities to serve its target audience.
