Library news and updates for September 2022

September 17 - December 3 (12 PM)
Fall and Winter Spice Club

Love to cook, bake, or simply experiment in the kitchen? Join us at the library for our Fall and Winter Spice Club! Create a dish using our featured spice, then meet at the library to share your cooking adventures. Bring in samples to share, photos of your creations, or just a story about how your delicious dish came to be. On September 17, our featured spice is allspice!

Please let us know in advance if you have any allergies. See the full spice schedule here.

September 22 (6 PM - 8 PM)
Read Out! A Banned Books Week Event

Banned Books Week is an annual celebration of individuals' freedom to read. From September 18-24, libraries demonstrate their support of the right to pursue and express ideas.

This year, the Capital Region Chapter of the New York Civil Liberties Union is teaming up with the Upper Hudson Library System to celebrate our constitutional right to read what we want during National Banned Books Week. A “Read Out” will feature regional notables — actors, writers, politicians, poets, and activists of all types — reading from their favorite books that have, at one time or another, been banned or challenged in the United States. Limited in-person seats available at Albany Public Library's Washington Avenue branch. The program will be broadcast live on Zoom. In person seats are available on a walk-in basis as space permits.

Register here for the Zoom link. Thursday, September 22nd at 6:00 p.m.

September 23 (3 PM - 4 PM)
Library Crafternoons

Bring your project to the library and hang out with other crafters. Whether you like to sew, draw, sculpt, or create in another way, you are welcome to hang out, share, and learn new skills! Crafternoons take place on the fourth Friday of every month from 3 PM - 4 PM. All ages are welcome.

September 19 - 24

Participants will be provided supplies for making different pinecone animals! Kits are geared toward grades K-3, and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Limit one kit per participant. Starting September 19, request a kit at the library's front desk to get yours!

October 4 - November 29 (10 AM)
Fall Story Hour Begins in October

Join us at the library on Tuesdays for stories, rhymes, and lots of fun! The program is geared toward children ages 2-5, but all are welcome! Caretakers are expected to stay with their child.
