Read Out! A Banned Books Week Event
Banned Books Week is an annual celebration of individuals' freedom to read. From September 18-24, libraries demonstrate their support of the right to pursue and express ideas.
This year, the Capital Region Chapter of the New York Civil Liberties Union is teaming up with the Upper Hudson Library System to celebrate our constitutional right to read what we want during National Banned Books Week. A “Read Out” will feature regional notables — actors, writers, politicians, poets, and activists of all types — reading from their favorite books that have, at one time or another, been banned or challenged in the United States. Limited in-person seats available at Albany Public Library's Washington Avenue branch. The program will be broadcast live on Zoom. In person seats are available on a walk-in basis as space permits.
Bring your project to the library and hang out with other crafters. Whether you like to sew, draw, sculpt, or create in another way, you are welcome to hang out, share, and learn new skills! Crafternoons take place on the fourth Friday of every month from 3 PM - 4 PM. All ages are welcome.
September 19 - 24
