Exploring Wind
Children create their own tool to determine the wind's direction and intensity.
Child testing rigid and flexible materials in front of a fan.

What To Do
How can we tell if it is a windy day?
What kind of tools can help us figure out if it is a windy day?
  • Introduce children to a wind sock.
  • What kind of materials would they need to build their own wind sock?
  • Provide children with a variety of rigid and flexible materials to test either by blowing on them or by placing them in front of a fan.
  • Have children build their own wind tools and test them on a windy day.
  • Encourage children to make improvement on their designs.
