Hello and happy new year! Or if not "happy," I'm sure we're all at least hoping for a somewhat better year than 2020.

It starts off with this bit of celebration for me: the book release of Lava Red Feather Blue! I'll be signing copies at Paper Boat Booksellers in West Seattle this coming Saturday, January 9, from 2:00 to 3:30 pm. We'll do it outside if the weather cooperates, with masks and social distancing. Paper Boat is a fabulous new independent bookstore in the area, and I'd love to thank them for hosting me by bringing in extra customers that day, so if you were looking to do some book buying, please come by. And tell your Seattle-area neighbors and friends to do the same!

This book was several years in the making, a delightful time for me of figuring out what an island nation in the Pacific, populated by fae and witches and ordinary humans and some odd animal and plant life, would look like. I hope you like the result and have as much fun reading it as I did writing it.

Here is a five-minute video of me reading an excerpt if you want a taste, and you can also read the first few chapters on my website.

In addition, I'm running a giveaway for a print copy over on Instagram, though if you don't have Instagram, never fear: as a loyal list subscriber, you can enter just by replying to this and saying, "Yes, me please!"

Finally, if you missed the fantasy-writing panel I participated in at Jolabokaflod PDX with authors Margaret Pinard and Allan Batchelder, you can watch the whole thing here. It was a lot of fun, and we start off wearing silly holiday headpieces, so you should check that out.

Take care, everyone, and I hope to see some of you on Saturday here in Seattle!
