I'm certified!
(Not certifiable. Although maybe that too.)

Happy Saturday, everyone!

Just wanted to share a small milestone:

In January 2020 I began a new course of study: the UW Certificate in Editing program. I did not foresee that 2020 (as with 2021 so far) was going to be an interesting year in which to launch a new career.

But one year and three months later, despite immense personal and worldwide anxiety, book releases, Zoom consultations, and navigating my kids through remote learning, I did it: I finished the course and am now a certified editor.

When I tell people this, they have a reaction I wish they wouldn't: they apologize for their own writing. They say something like, "Oh no, now I'm afraid of you seeing my posts!"

Please don't feel that way! My answer to such fears (which I learned from a course instructor) is that I only look for mistakes if you pay me. 😊 In addition, I really don't expect grammatical perfection in social media, text messages, or emails. Autocorrect and basic human inattention cause me to make mistakes in those venues too. No judgment here!

If you have writing you do want someone to polish, however, be it fiction, nonfiction, business, or academic, please have a look at my rates and consider getting in touch. Below are some examples I drew up, just for fun, of how editing can tighten up a story.

Enjoy your weekend, and may you achieve some small triumphs!

Nonjudgmentally yours,
