Donors Choose: Marley Elementary School Art Studio Fundraiser
by Amanda Hofstetter

My artists at Marley Elementary School are amazing! They love to learn and often times, this is their first time working with art supplies. One time a first grader painted her hands and the table with green paint as she was so fascinated with it… she had never seen or used paint before. As a Title 1 school, many of my artists lack the basics necessities they require for daily life. I want the art studio to be their place to play and experiment.

Donors Choose is a great way to get the supplies that our art studio could really benefit from. This is my third year making a wish list, since as a teacher, I often purchase supplies out of my own pocket. Donors Choose gives teachers a place to get the help they need!

I am excited for this year’s wish list as I am asking for brain-building puzzles and activities. These will be used for brain breaks after their projects have been completed. I know that they would love to experiment with the items on this wish list.

Don’t just shop my list, please give to other teachers that could use your support too!

Passwaters Antiques & Collectibles
Featured Local Business
As the holiday season comes to an end and we try to get our bank accounts back on track after spoiling ourselves and our loved ones, it's never a bad idea to plan ahead for next year (or for birthdays, Valentine's Day, etc.). One of my favorite ways to shop for my friends and family is to browse local antique and thrift shops like Passwaters Antiques & Collectibles in Georgetown. This building is an antique itself, a 19th-century shirt and button factory that owner Cortlandt Guy bought for $1 that had to be transported in four sections in 1990. Passwaters houses items from 22 vendors and is open Thursday through Sunday during the beach season, but it'd be smart to call in advance as hours fluctuate. Whether you're looking for furniture, glassware, or vintage signage and license plates, add Passwaters to your shopping list when you need a pick-me-up or are looking for that special gift. Head over to their Facebook page for more information about hours and local sales.

SoDel Concepts' Pastry Chef Wins Food Network Competition
Featured Local Food
Are you an avid fan of Food Network holiday-themed competition shows? By the time this newsletter is sent out, the Holiday Baking Championship will have been completed, but you might have caught a familiar local face. Dru Tevis, SoDel Concept's corporate pastry chef, is representing the Delaware beaches this holiday season. In an interview with Delaware Today, Tevis said that he first auditioned for the show in 2015 but didn't make it, saying that this time around it was the "right place at the right time." The prize for the winner of the Holiday Baking Championship is $25,000, which Tevis said he would use to renovate the home he and his husband bought recently. It's a good day to be a Delawarean.

"We met Sandra while she was holding an open house for a home that interested us. She was so friendly, professional and her home staging was beautiful. At that moment we knew we would choose her as our realtor. My husband and I wanted to purchase a home quickly but weren’t quite sure what we wanted. She was kind and patient as we looked at different homes. She always responded quickly, knew the area very well and helped us narrow down our choices. Closing was a breeze because Sandra and Jay made sure all documents were perfect prior to that day. Even after closing she helped us find movers and other professionals we needed. There is no doubt in our minds, Sandra really cares about her clients. We were lucky to have met her that day."

"By the time this is sent out, I'll be home for my very long and very cold winter break (fingers crossed for snow). It's the last long break I'll have as a college student since I'll be graduating next semester, so I'm going to soak in every second of the holidays and hope you will too!"
