A Message from Our Founder & CEO

Summer is in full swing, and there’s a lot to share with you about the direction that Operation Blue Shield is headed in the weeks to come.

First, I want to thank all of you who continue to support our mission of unifying the communities across this country by bridging the divide between our first responders and the citizens they serve every day.

As many of you know by following our social media channels, Operation Blue Shield is about to embark on a much larger journey. We are thrilled to have you on board in the early stages as we become One Community – together. Through your continued support during the past four years, we have been able to establish programs that reach deep into the heart of our communities, leading to more trusting relationships for all of us.

One Community will expand the reach of our mission and allow us to grow into a nation of citizens and first responders that understands the importance and value a good working relationship brings to creating safe neighborhoods where everyone can thrive and reach their potential. A win for all of us.

There are many new and exciting programs and initiatives coming to One Community. With our newly formed alliances, we will be expanding our impact and creating opportunities where they previously did not exist. We are very excited and look forward to announcing the details in the days ahead.

Thank you for your patronage and your patience as we continue to grow and better serve through your continued support. Follow us on social media for details about the upcoming August 1, 2019, launch of our new name – One Community – and our new website, and to learn more about the new programs we will be rolling out during the next few months.

A Message from the President

New beginnings bring with them strong winds of change, and One Community is no different. I have been involved during the past three years as a board member, board chair and ambassador-at-large with Operation Blue Shield, which is now becoming One Community. I am honored to be One Community’s president, and look forward to beginning this exciting chapter as our team breaks new ground.

Although there will always be new opportunities, our mission remains steadfast, as does our resolve to build a better and stronger America supporting our first responders and the communities they have sworn to serve and protect.

Mesquite Police Department Summer Adventure Camp

Operation Blue Shield partnered with Chief Charles Cato and the Mesquite Police Department to create a unique summer adventure for deserving youth from the Mesquite community. Officers from the Identification Unit, School Resource Unit, Investigative Unit and Traffic Unit joined 50 young people in a summer of new learning, growth and personal development.

At Trinity Forest Adventure Park, campers experienced thrills on the high ropes while learning how to reach beyond their comfort zones. They experienced breakthroughs for barriers and dramatic moments of personal growth. Throughout their activities, they received a wealth of coaching, encouragement and mentoring from the Mesquite Police Officers, who were with them every day during their summer camp adventure.

In addition to the Trinity Forest Adventure Park session, the campers joined in training sessions and were exposed to the latest police investigation techniques. Accident investigation, forensic investigation, drug investigation – as well as finger printing and crime scene analysis – created a memorable experience and provided an exciting new learning and understanding opportunity. Chief Cato said he especially appreciated One Community’s generous sponsorship, which enabled his department to extend the summer adventure camp to more young participants this year.

“One Community’s sponsorship allows us to give the opportunity to build strong relationships between our Mesquite youth and their police department,” said Chief Cato. “I cannot express enough my appreciation for Toni Brinker’s support and One Community’s involvement in this significant event.”

The youth involved shared their comments as well. Most significant were these words shared by Drew, his face lit by a big smile: “I now feel that I can pick up the phone and call any of the officers I met, and I can share with my friends how cool this summer camp was.”

One Community continues to partner with first responders in several jurisdictions to foster an ongoing foundation of new learning and trust between our youth and those sworn to protect them.

“We look forward to building on the exceptional efforts of our first responders, supporting them in every way as they continue to build trust and mutual respect in their communities,” said Toni Brinker, Founder and CEO of One Community.

Operation Blue Shield Night at the Dr Pepper Ballpark

On Saturday, June 29, 2019, Operation Blue Shield hosted its third annual first reponders' night at the Frisco RoughRiders stadium in Frisco, Texas. We owe a big debt of thanks to the City of Frisco and all of the first responders in the Dallas/Fort Worth area who came together to make this event special. Operation Blue Shield is committed to sending the message that when first responders and the community work together, we all win – even though sometimes the score may not reflect a victory. Special thanks to the RoughRiders, who agreed to pass the boot during the game to help a Dallas firefighter whose son is fighting leukemia. Although there was good-natured bantering between the Frisco Police Chief and the Dallas Fire Chief, after tossing out the first pitches neither chief was recognized by the RoughRiders as a potential relief pitcher. It was very refreshing to see people enjoying America’s favorite pastime, side by side with other people who just happened to be the first responders to whom we owe so much.

Take a look at this video of a great night at the ballpark.
