"I’ve been in photo pits where I have to crouch, I’ve had to sprint upstairs to get a specific shot, I’ve had to stand on benches and chairs to reach a perfect height, all while wielding two cameras. Some concerts are a workout – don’t be afraid to stop at the bar for a water break." Professional live music photographer and  UrbanYEG blog manager Kristin Breitkreutz shares her tips for concert photography.

Meet Chan Rin, The Founder & Director of UrbanYEG

“I started UrbanYEG as a way to connect local photographers and to build a community around that. I’ve always had a pay it forward attitude and when I started my photography business I wanted to give back by sharing my experiences and knowledge with leadership and development.

Overall, what I’m trying to do is inspire people to realize their potential, lead by example that you can be successful and still make time to give back to others. And know that cheering on the success of others does not take away from yours”

Chan currently runs his own photography business called Vivid Ribbon Photography and does this full-time. He’s always interested in hearing from you, whether it's feedback or how UrbanYEG has impacted your life, shoot him a message at

We bring together the online community to a physical one by hosting meetups and workshops that are open to everyone. Its purpose is to facilitate a place to make some new friends, put a face to an Instagram handle, and share photography tips and tricks.
In July we held a food photography workshop at The Hallway Cafe with food blogger Jessica Slabchenko! Jessica brings a wealth of knowledge around food blogging and photography and helped us expand our food photography skills at the workshop.

The Hallway Cafe is a unique space situated in City Hall. The Cafe supports e4c Alberta, a community group organized to help eliminate poverty by focusing on food security, shelter and housing, community connections, education and skill development. All proceeds from the workshop went towards e4c.

If you wanted to join but missed it this time, we’re going to be doing this again soon so keep an eye out!
