"Whether your subject is a person or a building, look past your focal point and see what’s contained within the scene. There may be something that’s contained within the frame that you would rather not include, or you may want to simply change the composition to create a stronger image." Professional photographer and Community Engagement Manager for UrbanYEG, Jeffrey Kelly shares his five photography tips for beginners.

UrbanYEG Instameets
We bring together the online community to a physical one by hosting InstaMeets, a photography meetup that is open to anyone. Its purpose is to facilitate a place to make some new friends, put a face to an Instagram handle, and share photography tips and tricks.
A stunning portrait from our latest Instameet on June 22. This Instameet at the Oliver Exchange building focused on portrait photography. We had two amazing portrait photographers, Kate Jensen & Alexandra Marcu, who gave tips and a short demo on how they shoot portraits! Photo by Jason, featuring Lauren

On March, the URBANYEG community had the privilege to get an exclusive tour of the Alberta Legislature Building. We had the building to ourselves and explored five floors of the Legislature, snapping photographs of the elegant building and taking portraits with the stunning architecture as a backdrop.
