The Rt. Rev'd. James Montgomery
It is with great sadness that I share with you the news that our friend and pastor, Bishop Montgomery passed away at home this afternoon after a brief illness. Bishop Montgomery served as the second Rector of this parish and the Ninth Bishop of Chicago. You can read Bishop Lee's letter to the Diocese here.
Brave and I had the opportunity to spend some time with Bishop Montgomery just a couple of weeks ago and he shared that he has kept the people of St. John's in his daily prayers all these years. He will be greatly missed.
There will be a Funeral Mass at St. James Cathedral sometime in November, and we will hold a memorial service for him here at St. John the Evangelist in the near future. Those details will be shared once they have been finalized.
Into your hands, O merciful Savior, we commend your
servant James. Acknowledge, we humbly beseech you, a sheep of
your own fold, a lamb of your own flock, a sinner of your
own redeeming. Receive him into the arms of your mercy,
into the blessed rest of everlasting peace, and into the
glorious company of the saints in light. Amen.
May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the
mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
