The Last Sunday After the Epiphany

 March 3, 2019

Dear Friends in Christ,

We find ourselves here at the beginning of a new year, with all the hopes and possibilities that a new year brings.  And yet we have also experienced significant loss in our community.  Two of our long time parishioners, Wally Hein and Frank So, have departed this life to join the throngs of saints singing their eternal Alleluias.  Even still, as we grieve their absence among us, we look forward to the future God is calling St. John’s to experience.  We have welcomed new people to join us in our mission to love each other as God loves us. And so, as we prepare to enter into a Holy Lent next week, I invite you to spend time reflecting on what this community means to you.  How have we experienced God together?  How is God calling us to serve each other in his name and with his love?  It is my hope that as this year progresses we will begin to recognize our common mission together, and once recognized, to live into that vision as a community of faith.

Faithfully,
Fr. Jeremy

Please mark your calendars for Sunday, March 3rd, as we welcome the Rev. Matt Berryman, the new Executive Director of Episcopal Charities & Community Services.  Matt will be our guest preacher that day and will present a forum after both services in the Resource Room.  Come and discover the great work that Episcopal Charities is doing in our community and learn how our parish and the Diocese of Chicago are a part of that work.

A New Kind of Ancient Worship Experience

St. John's Table continues Sunday, March 11th at 5:00 pm, and every month on the 2nd and 4th Sunday.

The ancient church worshiped around the table, around a meal that we have ritualized into the modern Mass.  Join us as we reclaim an ancient form of worship, as we gather around the table and together seek the Spirit's movement in our own time and in our own community.

Collect of the Day

O GOD, who before the passion of your only-begotten Son revealed his glory upon the holy mountain: Grant to us that we, beholding by faith the light of his countenance, may be strengthened to bear our cross, and be changed into his likeness from glory to glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
