The Fourth Sunday in Lent

 March 31, 2019

Dear friends,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Sarah Lawrence for her service to the Church of St. John the Evangelist over the last year and a half.  Sarah joined the Church staff in August of 2017 as the Interim Office Manager during our clergy transition.  Learning a new job is always challenging, but especially so in the midst of a community in transition.  Thank you, Sarah for all your hard work and dedication.

Please join me in congratulating Sarah and wishing her a fond farewell.  Recruit Sarah Lawrence will be leaving us on April 26 to join the Madison Police Department, and will be moving to Wisconsin in early May.  Please stop by the office and wish her well and keep her in your prayers during this exciting change in her life.

We have posted an advertisement for a permanent Parish Administrator and have already received many well qualified applicants.  Over the next few weeks we will be interviewing candidates and hope to have Sarah's successor in place the week of April 22.
Grace and peace,
Fr. Jeremy

A New Kind of Ancient Worship Experience

St. John's Table continues Sunday, April 7th at 5:00 pm.  We will then go on a short hiatus until after Easter for a time of reflection and evaluation.  We will resume Sunday, May 12.

The ancient church worshiped around the table, around a meal that we have ritualized into the modern Mass.  Join us as we reclaim an ancient form of worship, as we gather around the table and together seek the Spirit's movement in our own time and in our own community.

Lenten Reading Materials in the New Resource Room
We used to have our church library on a book cart in the undercroft. No longer. We now have an expanded Resource Room at the end of the education wing in classroom 4. Browse the collection and do some reading in the comfortable chairs. If you prefer, check out a book or two by signing your name in the binder on the wood book cart along the north wall. We have some wonderful spiritual titles!

Collect of the Day

GRACIOUS FATHER, whose blessed Son Jesus Christ came down from heaven to be the true bread which gives life to the world: Evermore give us this bread, that he may live in us, and we in him; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
St. John's by the Numbers

Last Sunday’s Attendance: 83
Last Sunday’s Offering: $2,204.50
We need an average of $4,294.93 each week to maintain our budget.
Our income year-to-date is $49,978.06, which is $1,561.10 (3%) BELOW our budgeted need.

For those of you keeping track, you will notice that the amount of our average weekly need has changed this week.  I wrote a couple of weeks ago, reminding the congregation that since we passed a deficit budget for this year, if we met our budgeted income need for the year, we would still have a deficit of around $16,000.  In an effort to be more transparent and to communicate more clearly, we have adjusted our weekly need from $3,865.56 (which reflected our budgeted income) to $4,294.93 to reflect our budgeted spending.  With this projection, if we meet our weekly need each week, we will have erased our deficit by the end of the year.

We are a faithful community here at St. John's.  We have a lot of work to do, but we are meeting the challenge.  Thank you to those of you who have pledged and those who have increased your giving.  If you have not yet pledged, please prayerfully consider doing so.  It's never too late.  We will soon begin more conversations around healthy stewardship, part of which means that stewardship and pledging is not reserved just to the month of November, but is an ongoing spiritual practice in the life of the Church.
