The Third Sunday of Easter

May 5, 2019

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

It is with both joy and sadness that I inform you that our Director of Music, Michael Soto, will be leaving St. John's later this summer to pursue advanced studies in Music in Texas.  Please join me in congratulating Michael on his acceptance to the University of North Texas.  We will have ample opportunity over the coming months to thank Michael for his service and to wish him a fond farewell, but let me take this opportunity to share my deepest gratitude for Michael's hard work and dedication to our music program.  Please see Michael's announcement to the congregation below
Fr. Jeremy

Dear St. John’s Family,

I am both sad and excited to announce that I will be starting a new chapter in my life this fall. Following months of self-reflection, six auditions, and careful deliberation, I will be pursuing a Master of Music degree at the University of North Texas, where I have been awarded a full scholarship, as well as a teaching fellowship in music theory. I will be studying with one of the foremost experts in the interpretation of French organ music while also developing my skills as a harpsichordist and chamber musician.

I am grateful to have been part of this parish--one which lives its faith by reaching out beyond its walls both in work and in fellowship with the surrounding community. There are so many of you whom I look up to as examples in my life, and I know that with Fr. Jeremy’s guidance and vision, you will continue to do great things. I am especially thankful to the choir. It has been a joy to work with a group who truly believes in the importance of music in the church, and this experience has helped me grow as a musician.

I will be here at St. John’s until early August, and over the next three months, I look forward to collaborating with anyone who would like to come in and play or sing during a service.

Sincerely Yours,

Michael David Soto

O God, whose blessed Son made himself known to his disciples in the breaking of bread: Open the eyes of our faith, that we may behold him in all his redeeming work; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

A New Kind of Ancient Worship Experience

Beginning Sunday, May 19, St. John's Table will take place every Sunday at 5:00 pm.  Come join us and invite your friends.

The ancient church worshiped around the table, around a meal that we have ritualized into the modern Mass.  Join us as we reclaim an ancient form of worship, as we gather around the table and together seek the Spirit's movement in our own time and in our own community.
The Resource Room is coming along and is nearly complete!  One of the final items needed to make this space a fully functional meeting and education space is the purchase of 8, 59"x30" tables that can be configured in a variety of ways to meet the needs of any size group.  The cost for each table is $300.  Please consider donating a table in memory, thanksgiving or honor of a loved one, and your memorial will be placed on a plaque in the Resource Room.  If you are interested in helping with this project, please include "Resource Room" in the memo line of your check.  For more information, please contact, Sue Buckman, Ginny McCollum, or Susan Marquis.  Thank you!

Other Announcements

Pastoral Care & Hospital Visits
One of the most important aspects of ministry is visiting with those who are ill.  If you or a family member or friend are hospitalized, please be sure to contact the Parish Office at (708) 798-4150 as soon as possible to let us know.  It used to be that hospitals would notify clergy of parishioners who have been admitted.  With HIPPA laws as they now are, hospitals are NOT allowed to contact us anymore.  If you are in the hospital, or are in need of pastoral care, Fr. Jeremy wants to visit you, but he cannot do so if no one tells him that you are in the hospital. Please make this a part of your family's emergency plan, to have someone contact the church.  Thank you for your assistance.

Blue Jean Yard Clean Up
Please join us after church this Sunday, May 5th for our next Blue Jean Yard Clean up.  Bring your gardening gloves and help us get the grounds in shape for spring.
