The Fourth Sunday in Lent
____________________________________________________
March 14, 2021
Dear Friends,

In the last few weeks there have been a number of stories in the news about churches that have been discouraging members from taking the COVID-19 vaccine.  Please hear me when I say, if you have the opportunity to receive the vaccine DO IT!  All of the vaccines that are available are safe and effective.  Some have argued that they will not take the vaccine on moral or ethical grounds.  Allow me to suggest that the real moral failure would be to not receive the vaccine and pass this deadly disease to others in our community who are at greater risk for severe symptoms and death.

That being said, please take note that our regular worship schedule is also slowly resuming.  Last Sunday we resumed our 8:30 a.m. Mass and we have now resumed our midweek Holy Eucharist with Prayers for Healing on Wednesdays at 9:00 a.m.  Beginning Easter weekend we will add our third weekend Mass on Saturdays at 5:30 p.m.

Please begin thinking about your Easter worship plans for this year.  While it would be wonderful to have the church filled to capacity for all three services, that would be irresponsible of us this year.  If you would normally attend the Sunday 11:00 a.m. Mass, please consider coming to the 8:30 a.m. Mass, or to the Easter Vigil on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. to accommodate what we expect to be larger than usual crowds.  We ask that you please attend only one of those three Easter services this year.  All three services will also be live-streamed on our website and on Facebook live.

As we look forward to Easter, let us continue to pray for our parish community as we join in the Paschal resurrection and bear witness to God's love and grace, made flesh in Jesus, being the hands, feet, and heart of Christ for all the world to see.

Peace and all good,
Fr. Jeremy
It's time to Spring Forward again!

Please note: Daylight Savings Time begins Sunday, March 14th. Be sure to set your clocks ahead one hour lest you be late to church!
Acolyte Ministry

We are searching for both adult and youth Acolytes.  Acolytes have a special ministry of assisting at the altar and leading the people of God in worship.  If you are interested in becoming an Acolyte, please contact Sarra in the Parish Office.  We would like to resume the Acolyte Ministry with the Easter Weekend Masses.
COVID-19 UPDATE

Cook County (Region 10) is now in Phase 4 of the State's restoration plan and our local positivity rate is 3.2%.  Accordingly the Standing Committee of the Diocese of Chicago has authorized all congregations in Region 10 to resume in-person gatherings of no more than 100 or 25% of the seating capacity (whichever is fewer).

For St. John's this means that we have resumed worship inside the church with gatherings of no more than 50 per service.  We have resumed the 8:30 am and 11:00 am Sunday Masses, and will add additional services as attendance dictates. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Fr. Jeremy
.

Gracious Father, whose blessed Son Jesus Christ came down from heaven to be the true bread which gives life to the world: Evermore give us this bread, that he may live in us, and we in him; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen
