Dear Friends,
A few months ago I shared with you the Vestry's decision to change the way in which the Rector's Discretionary Fund is funded. Beginning January 1, this fund is no longer funded from the general budget. Instead, we will deposit the loose cash offering from the first Sunday of each month into the Discretionary Fund. This gives each of you the opportunity to participate in the ongoing ministry that this fund supports.
Recently, St. John's has been able to provide food assistance to a local foster family, we have provided emergency overnight housing to a young family going through a moment of crisis, we have helped a family in need keep their electricity turned on, and we have helped the Night Ministry with the costs associated with relocating their homeless youth shelter. All of this was made possible by contributions to the Rector's Discretionary Fund.
This Sunday, please consider putting a little something extra in the collection plate to support this work. Again, all of the loose cash offering will go to this fund, or if you would like to contribute by check, please be sure to put "Rector's Discretionary Fund" in the memo line. Thank you for your commitment to the ongoing work and ministry of this parish.
Blessings,
Fr. Jeremy

Collect for January 5
O God, by the leading of a star you manifested your only Son to the peoples of the earth: Lead us, who know you now by faith, to your presence, where we may see your glory face to face; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
