The Feast of All Saints'
November 1, 2020

Dear Friends,
As you are no doubt aware by now, in response to increased cases of COVID-19 Gov. Pritzker has ordered much of our State back to Phase 3 restrictions.  I believe this is good and prudent leadership on behalf of State officials, and a reminder for us that one way we express our love for each other is by sacrificing to ensure we are all safe.  So, what does this mean for St. John's?  In practice, not much.  Over the Summer, your Vestry agreed that even though the State allowed us to have as many as 50 people in the church, we would continue a more cautious re-opening and restrict gatherings to 25.

In order to accommodate more attendance, beginning next Saturday, November 7, we will be introducing a second worship service to our schedule at 5:30 p.m.

Also, as we continue to pray for our nation during this divisive election season, there will be an Election Day service of Morning Prayer in the Church at 9:00 a.m.  This service will be streamed live on both our Website and Facebook page.  Please join us either in person or online.
Grace & Peace,
Fr. Jeremy

Sacred Ground is a film- and readings-based dialogue series on race, grounded in faith.  Small groups are invited to walk through chapters of America’s history of race and racism, while weaving in threads of family story, economic class, and political and regional identity.
The 10-part series is built around a powerful online curriculum of documentary films and readings that focus on Indigenous, Black, Latino, and Asian/Pacific American histories as they intersect with European American histories.

Sacred Ground is part of Becoming Beloved Community, The Episcopal Church’s long-term commitment to racial healing, reconciliation, and justice in our personal lives, our ministries, and our society.  This series is open to all, and especially designed to help white people talk with other white people.  Participants are invited to peel away the layers that have contributed to the challenges and divides of the present day – all while grounded in our call to faith, hope and love.

We already have one Dialogue Circle meeting, and there is room to add others.  If you are interested in participating, please e-mail Fr. Jeremy at

Please click here to learn more about Sacred Ground from the Episcopal Church's website.

In normal times, the Transition Committee would have hosted a week of "Walk-Abouts" during which time the Candidates would have toured the Diocese and engaged in a series of Town-Hall forums to help us get to known them better.  Clearly, in the age of COVID-19 this is not going to be possible.  Instead there will be 6 Candidate Conversations hosted via Zoom.  These Conversations are open to all people of the Diocese, and I encourage you all to attend at least one, if not more of them, and to share your impressions of the candidates to your electing delegates.  Your electing delegates are:
Gale Michael
Sue O'Brien
Steven Russell
Pat-Smith Huntoon (Alternate)

In addition, you can also share your thoughts with any of the Clergy who all have a vote as well.

Please click here to see the schedule, and to access the Zoom links for each Candidate Conversation.
Due to COVID-19 South Suburban PADS has closed the scattered-site locations and is now housing 50 – 70 clients at the Baymont hotel in Calumet City.

There are two shifts that are in need of volunteers to serve already-prepared meals to these clients in the motel lobby:  Friday nights 6 pm – 8:30 pm and Saturday mornings 8 am – 9:30 a.m.

If anyone is interested in helping out, please contact Sarra in the Church Office via telephone or email.
Please click on the image above to register for the next SWIFT Speakers Forum, which will be held via Zoom on Sunday, November 15 at 3:00 p.m.  If you have any questions, please contact Rob McManamy or Bryan Burke.
