The Third Sunday in Lent
____________________________________________________
March 7, 2021
Dear Friends,

Can you believe that Easter is only one month from today?  Time has seemed to operate in strange ways the past year.  In some ways it seems like we've lived through ten years in this one, and in other ways it seems like we just celebrated Christmas yesterday.  But here we are, moving through this Lenten season of self-reflection as we prepare ourselves for Easter.  Part of our Lenten preparation is a challenge for us to re-evaluate our relationship with God, with ourselves, and with each other, we do this so that at the Great Vigil of Easter we can stand together as a community and renew our own Baptismal Covenant and offer ourselves to God's service.  Easter is one of the feasts of the Church appointed for baptism, so if you have never been baptized I would like to invite you to consider doing so this Easter.  If you are interested in baptism, or just want to talk more about it, please contact me.  I pray that these final weeks of Lent draw us all closer to the One who created us in God's image and made us all bearers Christ's light.

Peace and all good,
Fr. Jeremy
COVID-19 UPDATE

Cook County (Region 10) is now in Phase 4 of the State's restoration plan and our local positivity rate is 3.4%.  Accordingly the Standing Committee of the Diocese of Chicago has authorized all congregations in Region 10 to resume in-person gatherings of no more than 100 or 25% of the seating capacity (whichever is fewer).

For St. John's this means that we have resumed worship inside the church with gatherings of no more than 50 per service.  We have resumed the 8:30 am and 11:00 am Sunday Masses, and will add additional services as attendance dictates. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Fr. Jeremy
.

Collect for The Third Sunday in Lent

Almighty God, you know that we have no power in ourselves to help ourselves: Keep us both outwardly in our bodies and inwardly in our souls, that we may be defended from all adversities which may happen to the body, and from all evil thoughts which may assault and hurt the soul; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Altar Flowers this week are given by Jack Voigt in loving memory of Peggy Voigt.
Calling All Writers!

We are considering creating a short devotional for Holy Week this year.  If you are interested in writing a short reflection on the daily scripture readings on one or more days from Palm Sunday through Easter, please contact Fr. Jeremy.
Extra, extra, read all about it!
Hot off the press:
2021 Parish Directories are now available. Pick one up on Sunday before or after services or stop by the church office, Monday-Thursday between 9-2.
Can't make it to the church?

Do you have a document that needs to be notarized?

Our very own Laura Brady is a Notary Public and is offering the service free to anyone in the parish. If you need a document notarized at any time, please contact Laura and she’ll be happy to meet you at church after the service to take care of it.
What if you had a way to give free money to the work and ministry of St. John's?  Well there is!

By signing up with Scrip you can do your shopping (at most of the stores you are already shopping at) with prepaid cards and Scrip offers a percentage of what you spend back to St. John's.  There is NO cost to you.

This is also a great way to purchase gift cards to give as birthday presents, Mother's Day gifts, or just a little something for yourself.

Please go to the scrip page of our website for more information.

If you have any questions, please contact Pat Smith-Huntoon at sjescrip@gmail.com.
