World YMCA Newsletter - July 2021

Thank you to all of you – presenters, partners and above all participants from all over the world – who joined the YMCA Youth Led Solutions Summit on the Future of Work on 7-9 June. I loved following the chat room: ‘I’m enjoying every moment of this summit’ said a young man from Zambia, while a lively commentator from Japan said ‘It’s 3 a.m. here’!  And now the work begins to launch community initiatives worldwide, and make ‘youth-led solutions’ a reality.  Stand by for more information as we prepare to address the topic of mental health in October.

Also stand by for the start of a Movement-wide consultation in July, as we discuss ‘Vision 2030’: our shared vision, mission and goals, and our YMCA roadmap for the decade which has to see the world delivering on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and the YMCA movement delivering on its aim to be the world’s partner of choice as a global youth empowerment organisation. Day by day, the world over, we are doing just that – we just have to bring everything to scale. I often repeat: to travel fast, go alone; to travel far, go together.

750 online for YMCA Youth Led Solutions Summit: 'the Future of Work'
A 3-day summit, with 4 plenaries and 40 breakouts, 150 speakers and 50 hours of content, attended by 750 people from 105 countries, each of whom stayed for an average of 7 hours. Thank you to all who made the Future of Work summit such a success!

Find a summary of Day 3 activities, Wednesday 9 June, and also the story of Day 2, Tuesday 8 June and Day 1, Monday 7 June. On the World YMCA YouTube Channel, we have posted video recordings of all plenaries and all breakouts, as well as the resource material. The YMCA Youth-Led Solutions site remains a great resource.

World YMCA President Patricia Pelton said: “This is only the beginning.  This is the moment when the term ‘Youth-Led Solutions’ really kicks in, and when we hear the things you want to do to meet employment challenges for young people in your communities.”  She indicated a sum of some USD 150,000 available for seed-funding projects, and set out timelines.

Register your Solutions Teams until 10 July. At end-August, you will present your Solutions  to a panel of experts. Early October, we will announce Solutions Teams selected for seed-funding. In July 2022, the selected projects will be showcased at the YMCA World Council in Aarhus, Denmark. Contact: youthsolutions@ymca.int
