It's time to choose NYU's new Learning Management System (LMS)
Mark your calendar and attend a demo session this week

NYU has initiated an evaluation to choose a new learning management system (LMS), the tool that runs NYU Classes. The university is currently evaluating two possible vendors: Canvas by Instructure and Brightspace by D2L.

There's still time to attend a live demo of Canvas this week, or watch the recorded demos of Brightspace who were on campus last week. After reviewing the systems you can fill out an evaluation form and let the community know which system you prefer.

Sitting alone during your office hours?
How to get more students to utilize time with you

All too often students don't make use of the time you set aside to meet with them. If you're looking to encourage students to attend your office hours, this article has some helpful suggestions: from being transparent about the purpose of your office hours, to changing the format and location, or even using...a robot.

STERN LSL TIP: Have a project coming up, or an assignment? Why not get your students to sign up for a 10 or 15 minute slot during your office hours and use it as an opportunity to give feedback on in-progress work? Use technology like Doodle or Calendly to automatically schedule, or take a sign up sheet to your class.

Question
I'd like to set up a mid-semester teaching evaluation. What are some tools that I can use to do this?

Our Answer
We'd recommend using Google Forms or Qualtrics.  You have access to both through your Stern Life portal.  Google forms are very quick to set up and easy to use.  Qualtrics is a bit more involved but has more features, including more complex tools for analytics.
