About the quilt:
Each block has a different quilting pattern which is a good way to get the best from your Westalee Ruler starter pack and using the skills, you’ve learned in Sharon’s beginner class, so you can now go forward to produce a beautiful sampler quilt, put together using the quilt as you go technique. You must complete the beginners class before joining this class.

Friday 14th                                 9.30 am to 2 pm

How to Make a Chenille Cotton Rug

We are trying a different technique this Friday

Enjoy a plush feeling under your bare feet by making a chenille rug. Stitch and cut cotton fabric and allow the natural thread fibers to fray into soft, fuzzy rows that resemble caterpillars. While vintage chenille was originally created by hand-tufting yarn on fabric sheets, the process was tedious. Modern versions of chenille home decor items are now manufactured using machines, but their price can make it difficult for the average household to obtain. Making your own chenille is a way to use up small cuts of fabric left over from previous projects.

Supply your own lunch
You will need to supply your own threads and fabrics etc.
Cost $30.00 per class (includes pattern)

Tuesday 18th  - Creating Children's Clothing
Hats and Caps
  9.30 am to 1.30 pm

Do you have trouble finding clothes that fit the young child in your life well? Do you find you need one size for length, and another for the waist?

Do you want your child to wear something different to everyone else, sometimes it can turn out to be fraction of the cost of purchased  prices and sometimes not but it will be a one of a kind and who can put a price on that?
Maybe you want to sew to sell, and really don't know where to start.

Are you thinking more about whether their clothes are ethically sourced or just want good quality fabric?

Does the thought of sewing clothing for your child fill you with fear?
Maybe you would just like to whip up a beautiful, one of a kind outfit?

Let us help you get your child into something YOU made.

This year we are continuing an exciting new class, sewing clothing for the children! We started with a gorgeous little peasant dress, perfect for spring days and lovely summer months then onto shorts and this time it's hats.  I will show you step by step how change the pattern size to suit the child and then how to sew the hat or cap or even both if time permits!, I supply you with the pattern  and before you know it you will be hats and caps for everyone!!!

You will need to supply your own threads and fabrics etc.

Thursday 20th   Teddy Bear

Want to try something new this year? Then maybe then this class is for you. Kristostar is his name (made by Chris and used fabric which has stars on it). He is a good size standing at approximately 19'' high or sits nicely at 14'' he has movable arms and legs. With a lovely big bow anyone would easily fall ion love with him... or her. Chris choose the same patterned fabric in five different colours or you can use just one. I made this bear a long long time ago and added machine embroidery and a friend just made hers in calico and had her friends sign it on her birthday there are endless possibilities for this bear.

Friday 21st  - Bag of the Month - 9.30am to 2pm

or Fun Friday -  same time and place

This puffy sided bag or bowl is our project this month. The sides are filled with polyester toy filling which is what makes it stand up. The base is added to the bag and once filled its not hard to sew but you will need to be 'bossy' with it. Then we add padded and plaited straps to finish.
The bowl is made slightly differently and is finished with a binding top, not as fiddly but you still have to hold the filling out of the way when stitching the binding in place.
Everyone needs a small challenge now and again.

You will need to supply your own threads and fabrics etc.
Cost $30.00 per class

When making a mug rug it will require a few centimeters of hand sewing to close where the mug rug is turned out the right way.

They are quick and easy to sew making them perfect for craft market stalls, gifts or your own home.

Friday 28th            Applique
  9.30 am to 2 pm
A few ladies have asked for a monthly applique class using Australian animals by Monica Poole. So save the last Friday of the month and add it into your diary as Applique Friday!! Then come and join the fun.
Appliqué is cut outs of contrasting fabric that are applied to a base fabric to form a picture and usually sewn using a blanket stitch.
Fusible web (sold as vliesofix, and other trade names) melts to adhere the fabrics together holding the pieces in place.
Fusible web is available in different weights (Ocean Keys Sewing Center sells the light/medium). Although it may seem like a heavy bond will grip better, it will also be much stiffer after it has melted. When you sew around the edges this softer fusible web is easier to handle.
There are different styles of applique stitching be it satin stitch or blanket stitch, and the choice is yours.
You can use these for a quilt, a wall hanging or a bag.
Supply your own lunch
You will need to supply your own threads and fabrics etc.
Cost $30.00 per class (includes pattern)
