Friday 13th - Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP)
Sydney Opera House or a catch up class
or for Fun Friday aka U.F.O. Sewing
9.30am to 2pm

Michelle and Chris
Chris has caught Michelle's bug and designed his version of FPP of the Sydney Opera House. We are very impressed with the result and hope you will as well, so come along on this Friday the 13th and join in the fun.
Here at Ocean Keys Sewing we are a little bit obsessed with foundation paper piecing (FPP). This is a really simple, but effective sewing and quilt making technique where you have a paper pattern and a specific sewing order, and then you position fabric on the paper and sew through the paper and fabric.
Once the block is completed you gently tear away the paper. You can be very precise using this method and once you get the hang of it you will be surprised just how easy it is.
We are also having  a ‘catch up' class for those who missed a certain pattern be it ‘Australia’, ‘New Zealand’, one of the ‘Christmas'  designs or even the ‘Sewing Machine’.
If you get the FPP bug like we have, you might want to come and sew a new design with us every month and turn your blocks into a quilt (we can help with that too!).

Supply your own lunch
FFP Cost is $30 (includes pattern).
Fun Friday Class $25.00
Please supply fabric (or it can be purchased on the day).

If you are ‘stuck’ and don’t know or understand what you need to do to finish a project or may have even lost your inspiration then hopefully this is the time to come and join like-minded patch-workers or sewing ladies and we will help where we can to get your project finished.
Cost $20.00 per class

Friday 20th  Applique
  9.30 am to 2 pm
Faye and Michelle

Appliqué is cut outs of contrasting fabric that are applied to a base fabric to form a picture and usually sewn using a blanket stitch.
Fusible web (sold as vliesofix, and other trade names) melts to adhere the fabrics together holding the pieces in place.
Fusible web is available in different weights (Ocean Keys Sewing Center sells the light/medium). Although it may seem like a heavy bond will grip better, it will also be much stiffer after it has melted. When you sew around the edges this softer fusible web is easier to handle.
There are different styles of applique and you can select which pattern to use. One forms a picture having fabrics nestled together and overlapping or the other method has gaps of background fabric around the different sections.
You can use these for a wall hanging, in a quilt or a bag.
Supply your own lunch
You will need to supply your own threads and fabrics etc.
Cost $30.00 per class

Customer Reviews ( from Sweet Pea Designs)

This design is digitized very well. It stitched out great with no issues. It is also a very gorgeous design and can be used for various purposes, not just a wall hanging or table runner. I made mine into a bed runner. Sweet Pea always delivers great designs.

I thorough enjoyed this design, there was so much scope when it came to selecting your fabrics, for example your sky could be like a sunset, or stormy looking, plus the ocean can be clear and calm aqua, or however your mood takes you. The instructions were so easy to follow. Loved it

Love the scene. You can make as shown or add many of SP Designs to it. Love projects that you can do this too. Great designs.

This is a beautiful design and can be made in various configurations. You can also add other sweet pea designs like the lady on the beach and the sailboat. Stitches beautifully.

Friday 27th  - Bag? of the Month - 9.30am to 2pm
or for those with UFO's same time and place

Faye and Michelle

Need a great idea for organizing  your quilt rulers and are you tired of not knowing where they are?  We have the answer for that problem, it's a ruler storage wall hanger with pockets. This can easily be hung over the sewing room door or on a wall. There are many pockets to keep your rulers together. A charming and easy patchwork block makes a great feature and shows off your patchwork and quilting skills at the same time.
A note of warning - this will not be finished in a day but you will be well on the way of completing it at your own time and pace at home or you are very welcome to come along and join our Fun Friday classes.
