Our aim is to hold an informal and relaxed friendly meeting. We are hoping that ladies will bring along sewing items to show, and to hopefully inspire us all. Everyone working here does enjoy these sessions and hope that you all do as well.
We will have our samples for the coming month’s classes to show and if time would just slow down we may even get the opportunity to sew for ourselves and show these items as well – no promises ...

If there is something new in the market place and we know about it, we will show it, or if we don’t know and you mention it we will endeavor to find out more for you.

If you are having a problem, chances are someone else had the same thing so please ask and hopefully we or someone at the meeting can help.

If you are a beginner or more experienced it doesn’t matter - all are welcome. All you need to bring is your sewing machine, threads, pins and scissors then we will supply the rest.

Friday 15th - Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP)
Bright Flower or Catch up class
or for those who prefer Fun Friday - same time and place
   9.30am to 2pm

Michelle
Here at Ocean Keys Sewing we are a little bit obsessed with foundation paper piecing (FPP). This is a really simple, but effective sewing and quilt making technique where you have a paper pattern and a specific sewing order, and then you position fabric on the paper and sew through the paper and fabric.
Once the block is completed you gently tear away the paper. You can be very precise using this method and once you get the hang of it you will be surprised just how easy it is.
This lovely bright flower would be ideal for a cushion front or why not stitch a pair of them to use for the front and back of a tote bag.
We are doing a ‘catch up’ class for those who missed a certain pattern be it ‘Australia’, ‘New Zealand’, one of the ‘Christmas’ designs or even the ‘Sewing Machine’.
If you get the FPP bug like we have, you might want to come and sew a new design with us every month and turn your blocks into a quilt (we can help with that too!).
FFP Cost is $30 (includes pattern).
Fun Friday Class $25.00
Please supply fabric (or it can be purchased on the day).

Do you have trouble finding clothes that fit the young child in your life well? Do you find you need one size for length, and another for the waist?

Do you want your child to wear something different to everyone else, at a fraction of the cost of handmaidens prices?
Maybe you want to sew to sell, and really don't know where to start.

Maybe you would just like to whip up a beautiful, one of a kind Christmas Day outfit?

Let us help you get your child into something YOU made.

This month we are continuing an exciting new class, sewing clothing for the children! We started with a gorgeous little peasant dress, perfect for spring days and lovely summer months. so this month we are making shorts. You can add trim or ruffles or just leave them plain, the choice is up to you.  We teach you step by step how change the pattern size to suit the child and then how to sew the shorts, supply you with the pattern (multi sized), and before you know it, the child in your life has a  new wardrobe.

We will explain the mystery of your overlocker. We will go through the 2 ways of threading, tensions, normal 4 and 3 thread over-locking, rolled hems and explain all about differential feed.
At the end of this class you will be surprised how easy it is to become its pal.  It does not matter how old or which brand of overlocker you own but it must be in good working order.

Friday 29th  - Bag of the Month -  9.30am to 2pm
or for those with UFO's - Fun Friday - same time and place

Faye and Michelle
With Christmas almost here and all the gifts ( ahem... should be) ready for gift wrapping and wanting to reduce paper waste how about making small gift bags that can be used for other items later, ie for sewing and or school bits and pieces. This simple zippered humbug bag is the answer. It's a great way to use up those smaller scraps of fabric that we just can't throw away but are too small to do anything with and what about that bag of odd zippers that we have stashed away for later use.

You will need to supply your own threads and fabrics etc.
Cost $30.00 per class
