What's happening in August
Thursday 1st  - Look and Learn
from 10am

Our aim is to hold an informal and relaxed friendly meeting. We are hoping that ladies will bring along sewing items to show, and to hopefully inspire us all. Everyone working here does enjoy these sessions and hope that you all do as well.
We will have our samples for the coming month’s classes to show and if time would just slow down we may even get the opportunity to sew for ourselves and show these items as well – no promises ...

If there is something new in the market place and we know about it, we will show it, or if we don’t know and you mention it we will endeavor to find out more for you.

If you are having a problem, chances are someone else had the same thing so please ask and hopefully we or someone at the meeting can help.

Friday 9th - Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP)
Unicorn (or Fun Friday if you'd prefer)

9.30am to 2pm

Michelle
Here at Ocean Keys Sewing we are a little bit obsessed with foundation paper piecing (FPP). This is a really simple, but effective sewing and quilt making technique where you have a paper pattern and a specific sewing order, and then you position fabric on the paper and sew through the paper and fabric.
Once the block is completed you gently tear away the paper. You can be very precise using this method and once you get the hang of it you will be surprised just how easy it is.
This month we are doing the "Unicorn". If you want to complete a previous FPP design instead, we can accommodate that too.

FPP Cost is $30 (includes pattern).
Fun Friday Class $25.00
Please supply fabric (or it can be purchased on the day).

Monday 12th and 26th - Sewing for Someone                                                                 1pm to 4pm

Faye

Our popular charity sewing sessions are still popular. The sewing is not difficult, and it is a fun way to learn patchwork and at the same time help make a young child’s life a little better.

If you are a beginner or more experienced it doesn’t matter - all are welcome. All you need to bring is your sewing machine, threads, pins and scissors then we will supply the rest.

We are making small ‘cuddle’ quilts for children in need, through various charities.

Check out how many quilts we have finished on our Facebook page.

This class came about when one of our lovely ladies decided she wanted to make a gift with meaning, using treasured photos from yesteryear. We met the challenge, and the fabulous photo keepsake was created.
This technique will help you master working with printable fabric, so you can use the myriad of photos you have to create a gorgeous bespoke piece. Relive your favourite holiday with the photos, use baby photos to create a beautiful heirloom piece, or a great wedding anniversary.
Make a special wall hanging, or a table runner, or go all out and make a quilt. Once you have taken this class, you'll have the skills and vision to create lovely one off gifts for family and friends.

You will need to supply your own threads and fabrics etc.

We will explain the mystery of your overlocker. We will go through the 2 ways of threading, tensions, normal 4 and 3 thread over-locking, rolled hems and explain all about differential feed.
At the end of this class you will be surprised how easy it is to become its pal.  It does not matter how old or which brand of overlocker you own but it must be in good working order.

Your creativity can be used when making your next creation using your Baby Lock with confidence.
This month we are going to try the many ways of finishing off different garment hems.

This month we will be doing the gorgeous Wavy Bag. A sturdy bag with six pockets, and a magnetic tab closure, this great bag can take you through everyday life with ease. Imagine never having to fumble for your car keys, your phone, tissues or your panadol again. That's right, they all have their own pockets, leaving the main part of the bag free to hold just your purse.
