We will have our samples for the coming month’s classes to show and if time would just slow down we may even get the opportunity to sew for ourselves and show these items as well – no promises ...

If there is something new in the market place and we know about it, we will show it, or if we don’t know and you mention it we will endeavor to find out more for you.

If you are having a problem, chances are someone else had the same thing so please ask and hopefully we or someone at the meeting can help.

Our popular charity sewing sessions are still popular. The sewing is not difficult, and it is a fun way to learn patchwork and at the same time help make a young child’s life a little better.

If you are a beginner or more experienced it doesn’t matter - all are welcome. All you need to bring is your sewing machine, threads, pins and scissors then we will supply the rest.

We are making small ‘cuddle’ quilts for children in need, through various charities.

Check out how many quilts we have finished on our Facebook page.

Friday 12th - Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP)
Catch up class or Sewing Machine
or for those with UFO's same time and place
9.30am to 2pm

Michelle
Here at Ocean Keys Sewing we are a little bit obsessed with foundation paper piecing (FPP). This is a really simple, but effective sewing and quilt making technique where you have a paper pattern and a specific sewing order, and then you position fabric on the paper and sew through the paper and fabric.
Once the block is completed you gently tear away the paper. You can be very precise using this method and once you get the hang of it you will be surprised just how easy it is.
We are doing a ‘catch up’ class for those who missed a certain pattern be it ‘Australia’, ‘New Zealand’, one of the ‘Christmas’ designs or even the ‘Sewing Machine’.
If you get the FPP bug like we have, you might want to come and sew a new design with us every month and turn your blocks into a quilt (we can help with that too!).
FFP Cost is $30 (includes pattern).
Fun Friday Class $25.00
Please supply fabric (or it can be purchased on the day).

Thursday 18th Westalee Ruler work
Block of the Month
or Beginners or a Refresher Class                                  9.30am to 2.30pm

Sharon Wyatt (Westalee Accredited Instructor) is continuing with the ‘Block of the Month’ quilt as well as a ‘New beginners class’ or for those in need a ‘ Refresher class’.
For those wishing to learn the intriguing art of the Westalee rulers then this class is for you, or for those who already have a set Sharon will teach you tips and tricks with the rulers, so you can gain confidence in creating free motion magic for all your quilts and help you create a style of your own. All using the ruler foot and just the starter pack of rulers.
So go and find that foot and rulers which you got ages ago and come and join a class and finally learn how to use them.

About the quilt:
Each block has a different quilting pattern which is a good way to get the best from your Westalee Ruler starter pack and using the skills, you’ve learned in Sharon’s beginner class, so you can now go forward to produce a beautiful sampler quilt, put together using the quilt as you go technique. You must complete the beginners class before joining this class.

The quilt is at Ocean Keys Sewing Center if you wish to view it.

You will need to supply your own threads and fabrics etc.            Cost $65.00 per class

Friday 19th and 26th  - Bag of the Month -
9.30am to 1pm
or for those with UFO's same time and place

Faye and Michelle
Back by popular demand is this (4 zippered pocketed with storage space in between) carry pouch. No matter how large or small your tote bag maybe you still end up having loose odds and ends rolling around the bottom of it, so this pouch is an ideal solution. It will hold all those smaller items when attending a class.
As most of you seem wary of zippers, we are going to take it nice and slow 2 lessons to make this pouch, so no panicking is allowed. Inserting zips into bags is done differently to dressmaking zips, so come and take the challenge and join this class.
You will need to supply your own threads and fabrics etc.
Cost $25.00 per class

Tuesday 23rd - Know Your Overlocker
            9.30am to 12 noon
Faye
Scared of your overlocker? Well then, this class is designed for you.
Don’t know which is the upper looper or the lower looper? Scared of tensions or just don’t know how to thread it? Learn how to treat your overlocker as a friend not an enemy.
We will explain the mystery of your overlocker. We will go through the 2 ways of threading, tensions, normal 4 and 3 thread over-locking, rolled hems and explain all about differential feed.
At the end of this class you will be surprised how easy it is to become its pal.  It does not matter how old or which brand of overlocker you own but it must be in good working order.
Booking is necessary and class size will be limited.
Cost $35.00 includes fabric for the class.
Thursday 25th - Love your Baby Lock
               9.30am to 11.30
Michelle and Faye
This monthly class is designed to get you familiar with your Baby Lock and to understand your machine better, making the overlocking experience much more enjoyable. We are going to do a different technique each month so that you can understand how to change to the correct settings and try different threads.  You can then put these samples together to make yourself a folder for future reference.
Your creativity can be used when making your next creation using your Baby Lock with confidence.
This month we are going to try the many ways of finishing off different garment hems.
Cost $25.00 includes fabric, not threads
