ROUND-UP Vol. 03

Here's the latest peek at the national housing market

On December 31, Tree-Mendus Fruit Farm in Eau Claire closed its doors and said goodbye after 3 generations.

According to a Facebook post released on the farm's page, the future of the fruit farm is uncertain, as most of the land and fruit orchards will be put up for sale.

The Teichman family made this decision following a particularly difficult year, which included the loss of the family patriarch, Herb Teichman, at the beginning of 2019. And most recently, Bill Teichman is currently suffering from the rare, mosquito-borne disease, Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE).

Shoreline protection is being installed between Lions Park Beach & Silver Beach. Limestone boulders are being installed as a long-term protection plan against high water and erosion.

The city & two homeowners along the lake came to an agreement to allow the placement of the boulders, at the homeowners' cost.

Discussions have begun to install more of the same type of barriers at the end of First, Second and Third Street in St. Joseph in order to preserve public access to Lake Michigan.

Ask Dave

Q: What do I need to do to prepare my house for showings?

A: If you're at the stage where your house is on the market & ready to be shown, you should have already done the prep work suggested by your agent - updates, repairs, etc.

Now, before each showing we recommend the following:
  • Clean/tidy - make sure your house is clean & presentable, including making beds, putting away loose clothing & shoes and wiping down counters
  • Declutter - help potential buyers envision themselves in your house by clearing out cluttered spaces
  • Open the shades - let as much natural light in as possible to make your home light & inviting
  • Turn on lights in dimly-lit areas
  • Mow the lawn - an overgrown lawn can give potential buyers a bad first impression
