Happy New Year Waco Pride Network!
Change Is In Store for 2021
While we have been quiet for a bit, we are back and ready for 2021. Before we introduce our new board members, discuss what is happening this month, and let you know about upcoming events, we wanted to take a moment to recognize that we have a new President and a White House that looks to be an advocate of our community. To have the President of the United States acknowledge the LGBTQIA community in his acceptance speech was something we all needed to hear and feel!

Furthermore, on January 20th, President Biden signed executive order 13988 which is aimed at preventing and combating discrimination on the basis of gender identity or sexual orientation. We are so excited to see progress taking place and know that our work and organization is more important than ever as we look toward our 2025 vision statement and our community.
Celebrating Black History Month

As we celebrate Black History Month, we also celebrate the trailblazers who made history for the LGBTQIA community. Stormé DeLarverie, Marsha P. Johnson, and Bayard Rustin each played a role in helping to shape the queer community during the 1950-1990s. Without these individuals, we would have missed out on the the drag king of the Jewel Box Revue and first racially integrated drag revue in the 1950s, the leader and figurehead of the Stonewall Riots, and a key advisor to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who organized the 1963 March on Washington.

As we move through February and continue to celebrate Black History Month, make sure to check social media! We will be posting more about these important individuals and their contribution to gender equality, human rights, and the LGBTQIA community.

Meet the 2021 WPN Board!

With the start of a new year, we also have some new board members! Please join us in welcoming our new and returning board members.

The Impact of COVID-19 on the LGBTQIA Community
It is impossible to find anyone who has not been impacted by COVID-19. Whether having caught the virus yourself, being witness to someone else having the virus, or even losing someone you care about, we as the board hold these experiences with you.

According to Logan Casey, a a policy researcher at Movement Advancement Project (MAP), a gender equality focused think tank,

“We know LGBTQ households and the community more broadly experience higher rates of discrimination in the workplace, steep obstacles to housing, accessing medical care -- and to the extent that LGBTQ people and LGBTQ people of color are experiencing the full force of this pandemic, it’s likely their recovery will take even longer,” Casey said. “So, even the vaccine coming won’t stop the long-lasting economic, social and physical impact of the virus on the most vulnerable.”

With this statement in mind, we want you to know that Waco Pride Network is here for you and your family! We are currently working on helping businesses to affirm their stance, in a visible way, as an LGBTQIA organization.  While we have a list of resources on our website, if you know if any business that are affirming to our community, please reach out to us so that we can add the information to our site!

How to get involved with Waco Pride Network

The WPN is an all-volunteer nonprofit and its efforts are made possible by those willing to donate one's time, talents, or finances to help make our dreams possible.

Whether our volunteers' contributions include a $5 monthly donation, vendor participation, donation of one's precious time, community support, committee membership, or even liking and sharing social media activity, each volunteer makes a huge difference.

Sign up to volunteer for the Waco Pride Network today. Together, and only together, can we make a difference.

Your donation will not only support the financial aspects of our mission, it will serve as a statement.

Your donation says that you stand against those that wish us to simply go away, to remain silent about who we are.

Your donation says that you stand with this community in its struggle for affirmative acceptance and recognition.

Total Donations FY 2019 - $4,606.82

Total Donations FY 2020 - $1,944.92
