Keep Up With The Phreaks

Phreaky Briefing by PhotonPhreaks

Welcome to the 13th issue of the Phreaky Briefing! My goal is to provide phreaks like yourself with information you will all enjoy and value. I don't intend to spam or hawk my wares and I'll try to keep that to a minimum (site updates will be at the bottom of the email, I know you're really here for the news)
Phreaky Briefing

High End / Custom News:

  • The Okluma DC0 dropped and sold out practically instantly
  • More LUX-RC FJ33 details have been released. Specs include a PVD coated titanium body, anodized aluminum heatsink, 4 aux LEDs with RGB and UV, an (unbelievable) 5000 lumens claim, motion and light sensors and the usual LUX RC optical programming. Also, something about programmable flood vs throw but details are unclear as of now.
  • Jason Hui posted his first run of "in house Betas", so let's wish him congratulations on bringing his production in house!
  • Jordy from Focus Works has been dropping uniquely finished Eryx torches practically weekly, mentioned that \he'll be making the torch stands pictured available for purchase and also posted a teaser of a beautiful MokuTi rod for a full custom Eryx.
  • Laulima Metalcraft is working on a machined titanium pocket clip featuring a ball bearing (I assume it's ceramic) that contacts the light body.
  • I've been working on a collaboration project with Leo of LM Toolworks for quite a while, posting the occasional teaser to the facebook group. Well, I have the very first proto in hand, and it's time for you guys to get a sneak peek too! Join the PhotonPhreaks Group for more updates and info as it happens!

  • Skilhunt announced the M150, an AA-based light with integrated magnetic charging, 14500 compatibility and a claimed 750 lumens out of a CREE XPL-2
  • Astrolux updated the MF01 to the MF01S. Improvements include a lumen output increase (up to 15000 lumens, over double the throw (600+ meters), secondary emitters and a huge variety of anodizing color options
  •  Imalent teased the DM70 and DM35. Details are sparse, but the release date should be in July. They seem to be based on the 21700 battery and/or the 22450 (might be proprietary) with USB charging on the battery. The DM35 is XHP-35 LED in a smooth reflector and the DM70 will be XHP-70 in an Orange Peel reflector. The DM70 is supposedly brighter than the DN70 so we're going to be looking at over 3800 lumens.
  • Emisar released an update to the well-loved D4, the D4v2. Here's a quick rundown of the improvements, list is stolen from Toykeeper's review here.  Optional steel bezel, optional tailcap magnet, tailcap lanyard attachment point, more grip on the battery tube, different host colors available, more LED types and tints available, MCPCB is screwed down now, larger MCPCB with dedicated screws holes, rotated the LEDs for a smoother beam, added aux LEDs with 7 configurable colors plus rainbow and voltage modes, upgraded the driver to use a new MCU with more pins and twice as much space, added spring-side firmware flashing pads to the driver, for easier updates, fixed reverse polarity protection and Completely new firmware — Anduril instead of RampingIOS
  • Reylight released a new model, the Gemini. A stainless steel body, triple XPL or SST-20 emitters, forward clicky switch, and only $110 for the base price.

What's New with PhotonPhreaks

You're reading this because you added your email address for "promotions, new products or sales." Here's a quick rundown of the latest happenings:

So basically I took off three weeks from doing these briefing. I went to BLADE Show (had a great experience, strongly recommend you Phreaks try to make it there next year), came back and got sick for about a week and a half with some toxic disease that can only be formulated by having thousands of sweaty men fondling the same knives at a trade show. Then just as I was getting better a (nonimmediate-) family member passed and I traveled out of state for the funeral so it's been a crazy couple of weeks but I'm getting back into it. Here's what's new:
  • Lumintop Changed the optic on the FW3A without notifying anyone and that lead to a whole hubbub. They agreed to go back to the standard Carclo optic but there's a production delay on those for about two weeks and some customers were affected by this. If you were affected, you were contacted. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out! Other than this weekly briefing I try to keep my weekends for family time so if you contacted me today and I didn't respond, I'm not ignoring you and will respond ASAP!
  • The Copper FW3C is now live on the site! As of now, these are shipping with the new optics, if you want to wait for the Carclo optics you can leave a note at checkout, or simply wait to place your order. I'll notify everyone when the Carclo optics are available.
  • The Phreaky Deal is still the RovyVon Aurora A8 available in either the A8Y (amber, red blue secondaries) or A8U (UV, red, white secondaries) for $37! It seems everyone liked it so I'll leave it up for another week before changing. For those of us that aren't familiar with the A8, it's an enthusiast grade keychain light featuring a transparent body (to geek out over the electronics), a High CRI Nichia 219c main emitter putting out 350 lumens and your choice of secondary side mounted LEDs. All in a tiny, lightweight keychain sized package.
    • As always, I try to offer the deals at the cheaper than anywhere else. Let me know if you find it listed elsewhere at a lower price
  • The new T-Shirt Design PATENTED is produced and ready to sell. I haven't had a chance to take proper photos so I'll list it sometime this week, or take horrible photos and list it anyway. Here's a sneak peek
  • 6 Panel phOwl Caps are still available, but Trucker Caps are sold out and may not be made again. Congrats to everyone that grabbed one.
  • I have a new patch in production that should be available by next week! You've seen the art before (not on a patch though), but it's a new style and material patch I'm super excited about.
  • I teased it above in the Custom News section but I've been working on my own flashlight design and company for a while now. It's going to be awesome! I'll give you guys the scoop as soon as more details are hammered out.
