Proverbs 26:1
Like snow in summer or rain in harvest,
so honor is not fitting for a fool.

Proverbs 26:1 begins an entire chapter dedicated to fools of all types by saying that an improper evaluation of a fool does more damage (snow in summer, rain in harvest) than good.

In other words, and this is the upside-down truth, it's unkind to say what's untrue of the unwise.

But that leaves married people with a difficulty. How do you talk to your spouse about their foolishness? 
Very carefully. 

The twin proverbs in verses 4 and 5 highlight the problem:
Answer not a fool according to his folly,
    lest you be like him yourself.
Answer a fool according to his folly,
    lest he be wise in his own eyes.

Married people must be truthful with each other, because marriages run on the rails of trust. But harsh words do as much damage as untruthful ones.

Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ,  -Ephesians 4:15
