May 2019 Newsletter:  A Very Eventful Older Americans Month!
Participant Spotlight

Greetings!  May is Older Americans Month and the Administration for Community Living knows that ‘communities that encourage the contributions of older adults are stronger’!   St. Alexius Outreach Ministries wants to recognize the artistic contributions of several of our friends.  We have an accomplished photographer, jazz saxophonist, poet and featured in this addition, Dr. Dottie V., an accomplished pianist.  Dr. Dottie has performed with many well-known gospel ensembles, taught many a student in the local Chattanooga area and according to Dr. V., she was a former Mickey Mouseketeer!   Due to health issues, she’s been unable to leave her home for the past several years, however, as she sits at her baby grand piano, her passion and amazing gift unfolds, our volunteers and staff have been the fortunate recipients of many an impromptu concert.  That’s just how this program works, it is in giving that we receive.  We welcome you to come and walk alongside our growing team as we continue to build this new ministry serving vulnerable, isolated and lonely older adults.

This month, we were delighted to attend the Southeast Area Agency on Aging and Disability's Aging Conference this month which focused on older adults in their capacity to connect, create, and contribute.  We were overwhelmed by the strong sense of collaboration within the organizations present at the conference and inspired by all those who came out and participated.  We continue to be encouraged by the energy and ideas of those in our community.
Thank you to the SEAAAD for having us at this informative conference!
May has brought change, growth, and grace to us here at St. Alexius Outreach Ministries as we forge new connections and strengthen existing ones.  We celebrate Mariko Tinaya as she moves on to her new position as program manager for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program at the Partnership services for Families Children and Adults.  We are in the process of hiring a new program coordinator and look forward to introducing them in our next edition.

We appreciate all the warmth and engagement we continue to receive from all of our supporters.  Please continue to share your hearts and your stories with us. Don’t forget to check out our facebook page @beinggoodneighbors and our website, www.stalexiusoutreach.org
In gratitude,
The staff of St. Alexius Outreach Ministries
