March 2020 Issue
Greetings Fellow Travelers,
We have entered the season of Lent, the season where we consecrate ourselves through fasting and penitence as Christians around the world seek to get closer to God in preparation for Easter.  I encourage each of you to make this time beneficial by giving up something that is meaningful and significant to you (i.e. sweets, coffee, beef, pop, etc.) something that would be a sacrifice for you.  Some have found the Daniel Fast to be beneficial, others have fasted (given up) one meal to spend more time with God.  Nevertheless, though I encourage fasting, because it is a bible based spiritual discipline that aids spiritual growth, we must also be wise.  Please do not deviate from your required dietary schedule, and consult your own doctor before beginning any fast.
To make this season of fasting and prayer beneficial you need to spend additional time in the presence of God.  I highly recommend the following: Use the (free) Bible App to aid you in a systematic reading of God’s word (see their wide variety of Bible Reading Plans.)  Create your personal prayer list, do not forget to include your church family and our goal to be a healing, and forgiving congregation (see my February article for Pilgrim’s 2020 Church Goals).  As you record your daily scripture reading, prayer requests / answers to prayer also record your experience in the presence of God for reflection later during difficult times.  Often the things you will write will bless you greater than what I could tell you.
Lastly, it is our custom to receive our Lenten Offering Easter Sunday during Morning Worship.  For this Special Offering each member is asked to set aside one dollar for each day of Lent ($40.00).  Or, one can set aside the dollar amount whatever you have sacrificed during this season and present that total as your Lenten Offering.  From one traveler to another, whatever you choose to do, do your very best to make this season an unforgettable walk with God … because Pilgrim is the church where the walk of faith transforms lives.

Pilgrim's Scouts
Annual Blue and Gold Ceremony

On Saturday February 8th, Pack 61 held it's annual Blue and Gold Ceremony. This is a celebration of the anniversary of the founding of the Boy Scouts of America and to reward Cub Scouts with badges earned.  We thank leaders, parents/guardians, Rev. Gill, Min. Patrick Burrage and Pilgrim Baptist Church for all of their support.

During this time, six Webelos transitioned to Boy Scout Troop 61: Ishaan Crawford, Noah Logan, Ari Reichow-Burton, Robert Tisdale, Devin Frelix and Richard Schulz.
Eagle Scout Ceremony - Sat. March 7th at 12:30 P.M.

Troop 61 will be celebrating our newest Eagle Scout, Brett McNeal II at Pilgrim Baptist Church.  Brett has reached the highest achievement attainable in the Boy Scouts of America program. Since it's inception in 1911, only 4% of Scouts have earned this rank after a lengthy review process.

Congratulations to Brett and the McNeal family.
Annual Senior and Junior Usher's Day

The Annual Usher's Day festivities will begin on Saturday March 14th with a workshop and training session for our Senior Ushers, Junior Ushers and Greeters. Then, come out and celebrate our Ushers on Sunday March 15th during the 9:45 a.m. Worship Service.
