A Note from the President

We’ve been talking a lot this year about the benefits of the PRSA Nebraska chapter membership. I am excited to let you know about two new opportunities from our Midwest District (MWD) affiliation:

The APR Grant Reimbursement follows successful completion of your certification. Two members are eligible from each MWD chapter each calendar year.

The Conference/Event Grant Program. Applicants who attend PRSA-sponsored conferences or events at the national, district or local level are eligible. Among the criteria for this award is sharing your experiences with the chapter and the district within 60 calendar days of attending the conference or event. Your experience can be shared via “live” tweeting, as a live discussion, blog post, etc.

Both types of awards are on a first come, first serve basis, once the applicant has met all of the criteria and completed the processing guidelines.

For details, please feel free to contact me. I hope to see you this month at our Ethics Under Fire event!

Best,
Melodae Morris, APR, SHRM-SCP

A long-running joke in journalism when a colleague transitions from journalist to PR professional is that they are "joining the dark side.” With news outlet ownership and newsroom staff consolidations, and the subsequent transition for companies from earned and paid media to owned media, where has that left journalists today?

On Tuesday, October 15, hear three unique insider perspectives - from former print, radio and TV journalists - all of whom are now PR professionals (and have yet to see Darth Vader). Each of the former journalists turned light side PR pros will offer media relations tips to successfully engage reporters and editors who are stretched thinner than ever. The panel discussion will be moderated by former television journalist and PRSA board member, Jeremy Maskel.

When : Tuesday, Oct. 15

Where: Annie's Dance Hall, Camp Carol Joy Holling, 27416 Ranch Road, Ashland, NE

Time: 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

We also will celebrate well-known and widely respected PR professional, Rosalee Roberts, who will be honored as our APR and Fellow.

UNL PRSSA Wins Star Chapter Award

It was more than just the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Public Relations Student Society of America (UNL PRSSA) chapter that was proud to have high-performing members involved in the organization - the national chapter recognized those efforts as well. On July 10, 2019, UNL PRSSA received the Star Chapter Award for the 2018-2019 school year, the fourth consecutive year of winning the award. This honor is the “gold standard” for PRSSA chapters working to achieve excellence, according to National PRSSA.

Join us as we congratulate them on this national achievement!
