This Big Sit incorporates Lectio Divina, two 20-minute silent Centering Prayer sessions, and Zulu and Taizé peace songs in honor of the 157th anniversary of Juneteenth, the holiday celebrating the end of slavery in the United States. Our morning of peace will be inspired by reflections from the Very Rev. Michael Battle, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and Rev. Howard Thurman. We recommend watching this 8-minute video here to discover Thurman’s influence grounded on his contemplative practice.
If you are new to Centering Prayer or would like information about how to practice the method, you can find Fr. Thomas Keating explaining it here. If you would like more information about Centering Prayer, email us here.
We recommend that you find a comfortable, quiet place in your home away from distractions that will support a sanctuary for our united silent prayer together.
This event is free. We deeply appreciate your donations of any amount. They will help defray our event and technology costs. You can donate on our website here. Thank you.
