THE SDG2 ADVOCACY HUB

Bringing together NGOs, agricultural networks, nutritionists, campaigners, civil society, the private sector and UN agencies to co-ordinate advocacy efforts and achieve SDG2 by 2030.
Hi all,

I hope you are all well.

We're still buzzing from the many insightful conversations and calls to action from last week’s UN Food Systems Pre-Summit. From bold Member State commitments to discussions that put farmers, Indigenous Peoples and women's voices at the centre, the Pre-Summit saw a diversity of stakeholders committed to moving beyond words and towards bold, ambitious action to transform our food systems, for people and planet.

Please find below the SDG2 Advocacy Hub August Newsletter. Direct newsletter contributions to Rosie for possible inclusion.

Best wishes,
Paul

KEY HIGHLIGHTS FROM UN FOOD SYSTEMS PRE-SUMMIT

Last week, more than 500 in-person delegates and over 20,000 virtual delegates from 190 countries gathered for the Pre-Summit to discuss how they will transform their national food systems to drive progress against the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. Find below a few highlights.

Good Food For All

The future of the world depends on good food.
It's that simple.

As the public engagement campaign of the 2021 UN Food Systems Summit, Good Food For All will take forward the Summit's ongoing outreach efforts by expanding its communities, partners and activities for a united movement that harnesses the momentum around food systems to achieve the SDGs. Learn more about it.

Have you created your Good Food For All video yet? Here's how!

Nourish the Future

This document outlines how the Biden administration could secure historic victories in the fight to end global malnutrition and child deaths. With broad endorsement from dozens of leaders and organisations across the global health and development space, it is a proposal to scale-up the most lifesaving nutrition interventions in the hardest hit countries with an investment of $887 million per year.

Better business reporting for nutrition

“2021 is a critical year to engage business to contribute to better food systems that reduce rather than increase malnutrition and that address the disastrous nutrition impact of Covid-19.” Check out an article in collaboration with the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition on better business reporting for improved commitments to nutrition.
World Breastfeeding Week

Women's Nutrition Commitment-making Guide for UNFSS

To leverage global and national activity aligned with UNFSS, this guide details narratives, opportunities, and information on UNFSS architecture to draw from towards advocacy efforts.

Exploring a new consensus for farmers food

Good food begins with farmers. With the UNFSS, Nutrition for Growth and Climate COP in 2021, there is a heightened sense of opportunity for coordinated action to improve the health, livelihoods, productivity and sustainability of smallholder farmers. The SDG2 Hub is working with partners to explore the idea of a call to action for a new consensus for smallholder farmers that could contribute to and build on the momentum of these global summits, align policy priorities, drive decision-making and investment, especially as we “build back better” from COVID-19, and support greater coordinated collaboration during this Decade of Action to deliver the SDGs. Watch the Pre-Summit Affiliated Session that discusses a consensus with high-level speakers. Learn more about the consensus here.
