Let's catch up, we had a busy summer!

Hello all.  We hope you had a lovely summer, and are settling into the back-to-school routine of the fall season.  We had several successful events and updates this summer that we wanted to share with you!
  • We have officially changed our name to Wakefield Food Pantry.  This simplified name represents our core mission.  Along with the name change comes an updated new logo! See above.
  • Our 7th annual 5k fun run with Tonneson + co was held on July 14th!
  • We acquired a new van to help us transport food! The van was made possible by the generosity of a substantial grant by the Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) and the Wakefield community’s many donations, plus a significant anonymous gift.
  • We hosted our first ever Soccer Jamboree fundraiser on August 17-18th!
  • This summer the WFP supplied extra kid friendly, healthy food to 92 households with 146 children.  This food was specially selected to appeal to children and have nutritional value.  During the summer these households with children and grandchildren do not have access to the free or reduced meals provided through our local public schools.  Our Kids First program was developed to fill that need.
  • The Wakefield High School Marching Band, led by Director of Performing/Visual Arts Tom Bankert — and supported by their friends and family —ran yet another food drive for guests at the Wakefield Food Pantry on Saturday, September 14, collecting 8,544 highly nutritious food items.
