Invitees: Friends we know and friends we haven't met
Bodhi Day, which takes place each year in December, celebrates the day in which Siddhartha Gautama sat underneath the Bodhi tree and attained enlightenment, an event that would become the foundation upon which Buddhism has been built for over 2,500 years.
This is a day in which we reaffirm the timeless principles of Buddhism: enlightenment, compassion, and kindness to other living creatures. We may also wish to reflect on ways in which we can apply these principles to life in our modern world.
The Bodhi Retreat is Amida Mosaic’s grandest annual gathering —and this year, the theme will be taken from one of Dharmavidya’s poems:
The Pure Realm of Buddha, they say
Lies in a land that is far, far away.
But if you are truly going that way,
You’ll arrive at the gate in less than a day. [Dharmavidya David Brazier, OAB]
You are all welcome to join us! Our gathering will begin with coffee and fellowship at 9:30 a.m., followed by the start of the formal retreat at 10:00 a.m. The celebration will include chanting, meditation and a Dharma talk; and our gathering is open to friends already familiar with our tradition and anyone who may be interested in a quiet day of seasonal reflection.
This year, two special events will take place: our celebration will include a Ceremony of Ordination for Jennifer Adam and Admission to Amida Shu for Wendy Boyle.
