ONGOING-SUNDAY: Last chance to see the Frida + Diego exhibit.
The North Carolina Museum of Art extended the Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera and Mexican Modernism exhibit, but it all ends on Sunday. Check out what we liked about the exhibit. [tickets + info]

FRIDAY: A Nest of Singing Birds. Did you know North Carolina has a tradition of ballad singing? These stories and songs from the Appalachian mountains will come to A.J. Fletcher Opera Theater for a PineCone event on Friday night at 7:30 p.m., where performers will share a stage and the craft. [tickets]

SATURDAY: 19th Annual African American Cultural Celebration. The statewide kickoff to Black History Month, the 19th Annual African American Cultural Celebration "will feature musicians, storytellers, dancers, chefs, historians, playwrights, authors, artists, reenactors and more." 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the North Carolina Museum of History. SATURDAY: Chinese New Year Dance Party at Five Star. Starting at 10 p.m. and going till 2, this dance party at Five Star Chinese Restaurant and Bar promises DJs and your favorite bartenders for its last Chinese New Year in its current location. [info]

THURSDAY-FEB. 1: Triangle Wine & Food Experience. This three-day wine event includes tastings at local wine stores, food and wine dinners with local chefs and a gala event. It benefits Frankie Lemmon Foundation. [info]

FRIDAY, JAN. 31: Vivian Howard at Creative Mornings. This is next week, but the free tickets for Creative Mornings are released at 11 a.m. this Monday. With Vivian Howard, one of North Carolina's most notable chefs, scheduled to speak, expect those registrations to get snapped up fast. [info]
