Dear <<First Name>>,

Hi Everyone,
Breaking news: we are now a member of Eastbourne Chamber. This will permit our group to have a much wider audience. Also, we hope to be more influencial in the business world of our community. Already, several businesses that belong to the Chamber are “Plastic Free Champions”.

Watch this space for more to be accredited! Our membership has been made possible because of the generosity of a benefactor who has paid our joining fee for this year: Go Plastic Pallets ~ Unit 6, Alder Close, BN23 6QF.

Jim Hardisty, who is the Founder and Managing Director has already steered his company to become our 11th Plastic Free Champion. Furthermore he was the benefactor who funded the distribution of 3 educational books by Ellie Jackson to every state primary school in Eastbourne. We are grateful Jim!
Welcome to this month's Newsletter. We hope that you will enjoy reading it.

With our target in mind for Eastbourne to become Carbon Neutral by 2030, we have outlined a new strategy for achieving this. There have been 2 meetings so far. What we need to do is evaluate how well we have done in this journey. We also need to set targets at least on an annual basis to check if what we are doing is going to realistically reach our objective.

To do so, we ~ Eastbourne Borough Council and Eco Action Network ~ need to engage with every organisation in our town to work as one. Our own Plastic Free Eastbourne needs to set our own targets too! Watch this space to see if this new campaign takes off!
Our postponed “Christmas Dinner” has become our “Festival Feast”. This is going to take place twice during our Eastbourne Spring Water Festival 22, so whoever cannot make one will be able to make the other!
Please choose either Sunday 15th May or Sunday 22nd May, both sitting down at 7 pm.

Please email with your choice of date and menu choices. See here for your menu choices. Please send a £10 deposit by the end of March to me. The total charge for the 3-course meal will be £24 which includes a tip.

Our new model of our future Refill Stations will hopefully be with us early this month! Anticipation and excitement are building ~ watch this space...
We have agreed on the location at the Devonshire Quarter ~ one of our next installations.

we need and are searching for volunteers for 2 events:

2.    Eastbourne Eco-Festival on the weekend of 29th, 30th, 31st July. We have been invited to be part of this festival with our publicity stall. We need several volunteers each day to help run it and for somebody at the end of the festival on Sunday to take the stall home until the following 15th August.

If YOU want to volunteer for either of these, please email

Our lobbying campaign has stalled. We have made 3 attempts to persuade the parliamentary committee to agree that it can be published as a petition. I have now had discussions with a Member of the House of Lords. He has offered to discuss with colleagues the wording to make it more likely for the parliamentary committee to pass this potentially important petition.
Caroline Ansell, Eastbourne's MP, has been involved in our campaign and has been discussing this development in an ongoing dialogue.

Come and join us at our sixth BHASSEXPLORE collective #greensockmovement Extreme Coastal Clearance weekend between Brighton marina and Ovingdean!  All welcome.... so much work to do! There are over 10 tonnes of plastic and synthetic materials trapped on these 'sea defence' boulders on this 2km stretch of coastline!  Come and help free them of these nasty harmful materials.... we shall be on the 2nd slipway east of the marina all weekend as the tide goes out all day.... you can help in many ways.... cutting... gathering.... bagging..... carrying and sorting these ropes and ghost nets etc for recycling.... or just come and say hello and give us some support!  It's a beautiful place so let's all work TOGETHER to help clear up all this mess! Please share this message with others who share our interests and concerns about the environment and bring some friends with you!  There is enough work for over a hundred people to get involved! Many thanks.... to find out more about our environmental work and project.... please visit our website.... .... or the BHASSEXPLORE Facebook page...
