The Lysol Legacy

I grew up on Lysol.  My mother used it liberally.  In fact, if the Lysol scent wasn’t choking you as you walked through our house, it simply wasn’t clean enough for my mother.  She insisted that Lysol killed everything that might cause you harm, and as such, it should be sprayed liberally everywhere – at all times.  That is her mantra to this day – and not the Spring Breeze or Fresh Linen scent Lysol – the scents dilute the strength, clearly.  You must have the old school real deal to achieve maximum germ-killing power.  Sure, it stings your nostrils and makes you cough, but that’s a small prize to pay for a germ-free environment.

The congregant room at the O’Shieles Center in Rosenberg, home to Fort Bend Seniors, is usually filled at noon Monday through Friday with seniors enjoying lunch and social activities. Today, the room is home to 60,000 shelf-stable meals that the organization is delivering to seniors at home to the tune of 7,000 meals per week.

Fort Bend Seniors and COVID-19

By Bob Hebert

Fort Bend Seniors Meals and Wheels and Much, Much More, Inc., more commonly referred to as Fort Bend Seniors, found itself in a dilemma on March 3rd as our executive team met to address the rising concerns about the novel corona virus spreading into the Unites States from Europe and Asia. The seniors we serve on a daily basis are the most vulnerable to infection and the most susceptible to serious adverse effects from the virus.

The Corona Crisis

T’was the seventh week of corona and all through the home, all the creatures were stirring and ready to roam.

The closets were all organized and the binge watching caught up, with the hope that corona soon would be out.

The children were wrestling and not in their beds, while visions of toilet paper and socializing danced in their heads.

Mama in her mask and I with no song have been in quarantine for way too long.

Securing Economic Support: What Can You Do?

By Manish Seth – Seth & Alexander

Back in late March when the initial Payment Protection Program (PPP) launched, small businesses, banks and financial advisors all worked hard to get money to small businesses as quickly as possible. Banks were inundated with questions and requests for quick payment. While we worked with our clients to get the necessary data ready for filing, the banks were working on their internal processes to get loans approved and funded. After about two weeks, our clients were able to submit loan applications and obtain approvals. In less than 30 days, the initial amount of PPP funding from the government of $349 billion was exhausted. Last week, another $320 billion was approved by Congress and will be available.

FBISD to Host Graduation Ceremonies
During July at Smart Financial Centre

Fort Bend ISD announced its plans to host 2020 graduation ceremonies at the Smart Financial Centre in Sugar Land, July 19th through 21st. If large gatherings are not permissible in July due to the COVID-19 pandemic, FBISD will hold virtual commencements.

Adopt a Senior

In a time where graduations are postponed – or are even only happening virtually – Facebook's Adopt a Senior is a great way to show seniors some love. Here’s how it works: Parents post pictures of their senior students, then other community members can comment saying they want to adopt the student. Then working with the parent, they can send the student gifts, food, notes of encouragement – anything to help make sure they still have a nice senior spring and finish their senior year strong!
