Dear Lighthouse Community,
Here we are with our smoking hot, right off the press, second newsletter! Sit back, relax, and enjoy taking 10 minutes to read all Lighthouse updates.

Lighthouse Updates

This month we had to say goodbye to Marianna Farmer, but that also meant we now have an amazing new head of SalesLouis Heroud.

On the 3rd of February, we did our first virtual General Meeting of 2022 to start the year right. More than 35 associates participated, we had news, events planning, and games.
Our next general meeting hybrid will be hybrid at least for the Paris and the Berlin campuses, so stay tuned for info on that soon!

We welcomed 20 new associates, which is absolutely incredible, and are looking at some very exciting upcoming things in the next few months.

Consulting Department
The mission for GerneOhne is ending on the 24th of February, and the client already said they are happy to continue working with us in the future.
Two new projects are about to start, for the startups
Bonsai and Wellin. Moreover, the Positive Carbon project has finally been launched, as the framework was accepted.

Human Resources Department
HR associates and head are currently working, again, on this newsletter (what's new). We incorporated a new section with an Alumni interview at the end of it, so tell us your feedback on that!
We worked very hard on the onboarding of new associates, and we are now focusing on defining new objectives to develop the community feeling.

Marketing Department
The goal of the month was to develop strategic thinking. Four associates were dedicated specifically to the Instagram and LinkedIn strategy and objectives, which were therefore completely re-newed.
Moreover, a new concept for the Friday post on Instagram has been developed: Consulting Shots. This involved a brand new design, and a collaboration between Benedetta Sandrone, Marine Astrou and Alessandro Sciascia (Head of Consulting).

Sales Department
New sales materials in different languages are being prepared as we speak by the Sales department in collaboration with the Marketing department.
Rose-Salome Lagaillarde and Alexandre le Pan de Ligny have two promising leads, one in the restoration industry and the other in the vertical farm industry. Meetings with potential clients will follow, and we will keep you updated!

Associate of the Month

We are very glad to announce that Paolo Elli, from the BD Department, was chosen as Lighthouse's first-ever Associate of the Month!

Paolo was selected for multiple reasons: first, he proved his commitment to Lighthouse by showcasing a deep understanding of society's values, which he had to communicate to potential event speakers. Second, he showed noticeable creativity in coming up with ideas on how to deliver the event itself. Third, his capacity to adopt a growth mindset without being discouraged by experts' rejections actually made the whole event possible.
Overall, he proved to have initiative and to work well autonomously, being proactive and propositive. He delivered high-quality results and proved that success shows tight when you reach the extra mile.

Main Projects

Sustainability Consulting Event

This Thursday, the 17th of February, at 6:30 pm (CET), we will host our first online event of 2022!

On this occasion, ESCP students from all campuses will have the occasion to meet three sustainability professionals and get a glimpse at what sustainability consulting looks like in the work environment.

Here is a brief presentation of each of the speakers you'll get the chance to meet:

  • Alfonso Benedetti, currently working as a Sustainability Consultant at KPMG, will give a speech about "Understanding who doesn't understand: how and why some firms struggle in integrating sustainability in their business"
  • Pietro Cimpanelli, senior consultant for EY's climate change and sustainability departments, will talk about the growing demand for sustainability in consulting
  • Akhila Nandanavanam, brand manager at Henkel, will  tackle sustainability in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry
We recommend you register for the event here if you haven't done already, share it with your friends who might be interested, and think of questions you would like to ask our guests!

Sustainability Jobs Platforms

As some of our associates are soon gonna get into the work place, we wanted to indicate a few platforms we found interesting to research job offers in the field:

Hopefully, they can be useful to some of you!

Alumni Section

In this month's alumni section, we are excited to introduce one of Lighthouse’s founders - Paolo Costi.

Before he got to ESCP and started our society, Paolo did a bachelor of economics in Padova, in Italy. During his studies, he participated in an Erasmus program in Poland, which is where his interest in sustainability was sparked through a business ethics class.

Paolo worked in auditing for a year after his bachelor and he then applied and got accepted to the MIM program in ESCP: his journey started on the Madrid Campus. At the time, there wasn’t much integration of sustainability in the business program, which is what lead to the creation of Lighthouse. During an infamous lunch break, Paolo and his friends, Tommaso, Luca and Leonida, decided to take matters into their own hands and created Lighthouse.

During his time in Lighthouse, Paolo mostly focused on creating partnerships and events with companies and organizations. This allowed him to develop a network that proved to be a meaningful asset in the venture capital field he now works in.

Paolo’s advice for anyone wanting to start a career in sustainability is to be proactive. He admits that finding a job in sustainability can be daunting because there is not as much offer readily available: being at the right place at the right time plays a very important role, however, there are options if you are relentless and persistent. At the end of the day, sustainability is a very broad field so the journey will vary depending on what you are interested in.

For those of you who would like to follow Paolo’s path more closely and work in VC and sustainability, the best thing to do is to diversify your profile and work in both the field of finance and sustainability.

If you have any follow up questions, don’t hesitate to contact Paolo at

That is all we have for you, for now, so see you next month with brand new updates!
Stay healthy and safe,

Your Lighthouse HR Team
